Global Market Support, Strong Financial Stocks Lift Sentiment; IT Sector Remains Under Pressure

Indian equity markets started Wednesday’s trading session on a strong footing, extending positive momentum from global markets. The benchmark indices witnessed broad-based buying interest, with banking, financial services and automobile stocks leading the recovery.

The BSE Sensex surged over 500 points in early trade, while the Nifty50 moved closer to the 24,200 level, supported by strong buying in heavyweight financial stocks and renewed investor confidence.

At 9:36 AM, the Sensex was trading 483 points higher, up 0.63%, at 77,538.60. By 10:00 AM, the index maintained its gains and was up 443 points or 0.58% at 77,498.07.

Meanwhile, the Nifty50 gained 128 points or 0.53% to trade at 24,179.65, indicating a positive start for Dalal Street.

Banking Stocks Lead Market Recovery; Nifty Bank Gains Over 1%

Financial stocks emerged as the biggest contributors to Wednesday’s market rally. Investors showed strong buying interest in banking and non-banking financial companies (NBFCs), supporting the broader market movement.

The Nifty Bank index gained more than 1%, trading around 58,072, while the Nifty Financial Services index advanced 1.3% during early trading hours.

Among the top performers in the Nifty50 basket:

  • Shriram Finance gained more than 2%

  • Bajaj Finance advanced over 2%

  • Axis Bank climbed more than 2%

The strength in financial stocks reflects optimism around credit growth, stable asset quality and improving economic activity.

However, some major banking names witnessed selling pressure. HDFC Bank and Jio Financial Services traded lower by nearly 1% each, limiting gains in the banking space.

Broader Markets Witness Strong Buying; Mid & Small Caps Outperform

The positive sentiment was not limited to large-cap stocks, as investors continued to accumulate mid-cap and small-cap shares.

The broader market indices traded firmly higher:

  • Nifty SmallCap 100: Up 1.07%

  • Nifty MidCap 100: Up 0.62%

The strength in mid and small-cap segments indicates continued risk appetite among domestic investors, supported by expectations of steady earnings growth and India's economic expansion.
