Zen Technologies, Paras Defence, Dynamatic, BEL, BDL and other defence stocks rally as Defence Acquisition Council approves major procurement proposals to strengthen India's military capabilities

Indian defence stocks witnessed strong buying interest on Monday after the Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) approved capital acquisition proposals worth nearly ₹52,000 crore, reaffirming the government's commitment to modernising the armed forces and accelerating indigenous defence manufacturing.

The announcement triggered broad-based gains across defence companies, with investors anticipating a fresh wave of order inflows for manufacturers of missiles, electronic warfare systems, drones, surveillance equipment and advanced defence technologies.

Shares of Zen Technologies, Paras Defence & Space Technologies, Unimech Aerospace & Manufacturing, Dynamatic Technologies and ideaForge Technology emerged among the biggest gainers, while public sector defence giants Bharat Electronics (BEL), Bharat Dynamics (BDL) and Hindustan Aeronautics (HAL) also traded firmly higher.

Brokerages believe the latest approvals reinforce a long-term structural growth story for India's defence sector rather than representing a one-time procurement event.

Defence Stocks Outperform Benchmark Indices

The sector significantly outperformed the broader market during Monday's trading session.

The BSE India Defence Index and Nifty India Defence Index gained over 1%, comfortably outperforming the benchmark Sensex and Nifty 50, which registered comparatively modest gains.

Among individual stocks:

  • Zen Technologies rallied nearly 6%

  • Paras Defence & Space Technologies gained around 5%

  • Unimech Aerospace & Manufacturing advanced more than 4%

  • Dynamatic Technologies climbed nearly 4%

  • ideaForge Technology also gained around 4%

Meanwhile, Data Patterns, MIDHANI, Bharat Electronics (BEL), Bharat Dynamics (BDL), Solar Industries, Hindustan Aeronautics (HAL), MTAR Technologies, and DCX Systems rose between 1% and 3%.

The broad-based rally indicates growing investor confidence across India's defence manufacturing ecosystem.

DAC Clears ₹52,000 Crore Procurement Pipeline

The rally followed the Defence Acquisition Council's decision to grant Acceptance of Necessity (AoN) for defence acquisition proposals worth approximately ₹52,000 crore.

The council, chaired by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, approved procurement plans covering the Indian Army, Indian Navy and Indian Air Force.

The latest approvals are aimed at strengthening India's combat preparedness while promoting domestic defence production under the government's Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative.

Industry experts believe these approvals will translate into sizeable tenders over the next several quarters, providing strong revenue visibility for listed defence companies.

Indian Army to Receive Next-Generation Combat Systems

The Army accounted for a significant share of the approved acquisitions.

Key systems approved include:

  • Akash Tarang Anti-Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Electronic Warfare System

  • Man-Portable Anti-Tank Guided Missile (MPATGM)

  • Medium-Range Surface-to-Air Missile (MRSAM)

  • Very Short-Range Air Defence System (V-SHORADS)

  • Active Protection Systems for Armoured Vehicles

  • Jet-based Kamikaze Loitering Munitions

These acquisitions are expected to significantly strengthen India's battlefield surveillance, anti-drone capability and missile defence network while increasing indigenous manufacturing.

Indian Navy Focuses on Maritime Security

The Navy also received approval for several strategic procurement programmes.

Among the major acquisitions are:

  • Multi-Influence Ground Mines (MIGM)

  • Naval Shipborne Unmanned Aerial Systems (NSUAS)

  • Land-Based Electric Propulsion Testing Facility

The new systems are expected to improve underwater warfare capabilities, maritime surveillance and naval operational efficiency.

Growing emphasis on unmanned maritime platforms reflects the increasing importance of autonomous technologies in modern naval warfare.

Indian Air Force to Strengthen High-Altitude Surveillance

The Defence Acquisition Council also approved the procurement of Fixed-Wing High-Altitude Pseudo Satellites (FW-HAPS) for the Indian Air Force.

These advanced platforms can remain airborne for extended durations and provide continuous intelligence, surveillance, communication and reconnaissance capabilities.

High-altitude pseudo satellites are increasingly becoming a cost-effective alternative to conventional satellites for persistent surveillance missions.

Technology-Led Procurement Signals Industry Transformation

The latest procurement package highlights a clear shift in India's defence strategy.

Rather than focusing primarily on conventional weapons platforms, the government is increasingly investing in advanced technologies such as:

  • Artificial Intelligence-enabled defence systems

  • Electronic warfare

  • Anti-drone solutions

  • Autonomous surveillance

  • Precision-guided missile systems

  • Loitering munitions

  • Network-centric warfare

  • High-altitude surveillance technologies

This transition is expected to benefit companies specialising in defence electronics, software, sensors and unmanned systems.

Bharat Electronics (BEL)

Likely to play a leading role in:

  • Electronic warfare systems

  • Air defence integration

  • Radar technologies

  • Missile electronics

Bharat Dynamics (BDL)

Expected to benefit from:

  • MPATGM production

  • MRSAM missile programmes

  • Missile integration contracts

Zen Technologies

Potential opportunities include:

  • Electronic warfare

  • Anti-drone systems

  • Signal processing

  • Kamikaze drone technologies

ideaForge Technology

Brokerages Turn More Optimistic

Following the announcement, several brokerage houses reaffirmed their positive outlook on the sector.

According to ICICI Securities, the latest approvals indicate a structural transition toward technology-intensive military systems, including drones, electronic warfare, anti-drone platforms and precision-guided weapons.

The brokerage believes the procurement pipeline creates long-term opportunities across both public and private defence companies.

Meanwhile, Choice Institutional Equities described the approvals as another confirmation of India's multi-year defence investment cycle.

The brokerage expects:

  • Better order visibility

  • Sustainable revenue growth

  • Higher localisation

  • Improved operating leverage

  • Strong earnings momentum over the next 12–24 months

BEL continues to remain its preferred long-term compounder, while BDL offers direct exposure to India's expanding missile manufacturing ecosystem.

India's Defence Manufacturing Story Continues to Strengthen

India has rapidly emerged as one of the world's fastest-growing defence manufacturing markets.

Government initiatives including:

  • Atmanirbhar Bharat

  • Make in India

  • Defence Industrial Corridors

  • Higher indigenous procurement targets

  • Rising defence exports

  • Private sector participation

have transformed the industry's long-term growth prospects.

The government has also significantly increased domestic procurement from Indian companies, reducing dependence on imports while creating opportunities for private manufacturers.

Long-Term Growth Drivers

Several structural factors continue supporting the sector:

  • Rising defence capital expenditure

  • Growing geopolitical challenges

  • Expansion of defence exports

  • Indigenous technology development

  • Increased private sector participation

  • Modernisation of all three armed forces

  • Drone and AI adoption

  • Electronic warfare capabilities

These trends are expected to sustain order inflows well beyond the current financial year.

What Investors Should Watch

Investors should closely monitor:

  • Conversion of AoN approvals into actual tenders

  • Request for Proposal (RFP) announcements

  • Order book growth

  • Execution timelines

  • Defence budget allocations

  • Export opportunities

  • Technology collaborations

  • Quarterly earnings

These indicators will determine how quickly procurement approvals translate into revenue growth for listed companies.
