Q1FY27 Fundraising Touches ₹2.37 Trillion, Emerging as Third-Highest April–June Performance Since FY20

India's corporate bond market witnessed a strong recovery in June, helping companies raise ₹2.37 trillion through private placements during the first quarter of FY2026-27 (Q1FY27). Although fundraising declined 34% compared to the record-breaking ₹3.58 trillion raised in the same quarter last year, the latest figure still ranks as the third-highest April–June fundraising total since FY2020, reflecting sustained confidence in India's debt capital markets.

The revival comes at a time when borrowing conditions have become more favorable following a series of monetary and liquidity measures announced by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), along with supportive government policies aimed at improving financial market liquidity.

June Leads the Recovery

After a relatively subdued start to the financial year, corporate bond issuances accelerated sharply in June, with companies collectively raising more than ₹1 trillion during the month. The surge indicates that borrowers chose to capitalize on declining bond yields and improved market sentiment before any potential changes in interest rate expectations.

Lower borrowing costs made the corporate bond market an attractive funding avenue, especially for highly rated issuers looking to refinance existing debt or raise capital for expansion and infrastructure projects.

Corporate Bond Market Remains Historically Strong

According to data from Prime Database, Indian corporates raised ₹2.37 trillion through private placements during Q1FY27.

Corporate Bond Fundraising Trend

Financial Year Q1 Fundraising
FY2026-27 ₹2.37 trillion
FY2025-26 ₹3.58 trillion (Record)
FY2024-25 ₹2.04 trillion
FY2023-24 Nearly ₹3 trillion

Despite the year-on-year moderation, the latest fundraising remains well above long-term historical averages, highlighting the growing importance of the corporate bond market as a source of financing.

RBI Policy Measures Improve Borrowing Environment

The pickup in bond issuances coincided with improving financial conditions following the RBI's recent policy actions. Lower policy rates, adequate banking system liquidity, and easing bond yields have encouraged companies to shift toward market-based borrowing instead of relying solely on bank loans.

As borrowing costs decline, issuers can secure long-term funding at competitive rates while investors continue to seek stable fixed-income opportunities.

Private Placements Continue to Dominate

Most of the funds were raised through private placements, which remain the preferred route for large corporations due to their faster execution, lower regulatory requirements, and flexibility in structuring issuances.

Financial institutions, infrastructure companies, non-banking finance companies (NBFCs), and large corporates continue to dominate India's corporate bond issuance landscape.

Investor Demand Remains Healthy

Strong participation from mutual funds, insurance companies, pension funds, and banks has supported primary bond issuances despite global economic uncertainties. Institutional investors continue to favor high-quality corporate debt as expectations of stable interest rates improve the outlook for fixed-income investments.

Market participants believe that the combination of healthy liquidity and easing yields could sustain investor appetite over the coming quarters.

Outlook for the Corporate Bond Market

Analysts expect corporate bond issuances to remain healthy during the remainder of FY27, provided inflation stays under control and the RBI maintains an accommodative monetary stance. Infrastructure spending, corporate capital expenditure, refinancing needs, and continued demand for long-term funding are likely to remain key drivers of issuance activity.

While the record levels seen in FY26 may be difficult to match immediately, the strong rebound in June suggests that India's corporate debt market remains resilient and is well-positioned to support corporate financing needs as economic activity gathers momentum.
