19-Kg Cylinder Dearer by ₹42 in Delhi; Government Assures Adequate Fuel Supply Amid Energy Security Measures

Commercial establishments, restaurants, hotels, caterers, and small businesses across India will face higher operating costs after oil marketing companies announced an increase in commercial LPG cylinder prices effective June 1. The revision comes as energy companies continue to navigate global supply uncertainties and rising logistics costs while ensuring uninterrupted fuel availability across the country.

Under the latest revision, the price of a 19-kilogram commercial LPG cylinder has been increased by ₹42 in Delhi, taking the retail price to ₹3,113.50. Similar increases have been implemented across major metropolitan cities, with Kolkata witnessing an even steeper hike of ₹53.50 per cylinder.

Commercial Users to Feel the Impact

The increase is expected to directly affect businesses that rely heavily on commercial LPG for daily operations. Restaurants, hotels, food vendors, bakeries, catering services, and small manufacturing units are among the sectors likely to experience higher fuel expenses.

Industry observers note that rising fuel costs often translate into increased operating expenses, which may eventually be passed on to consumers through higher prices for food and services if elevated fuel costs persist over an extended period.

Smaller LPG Cylinders Also Become Costlier

In addition to commercial cylinders, the price of 5-kg Free Trade LPG (FTL) cylinders has also been revised upward. The retail price of these cylinders has increased by ₹11, bringing the cost to ₹821.50 in Delhi.

The revision reflects adjustments made by public sector oil marketing companies based on prevailing market conditions, transportation expenses, and global energy trends.

No Change in Domestic LPG Cylinder Prices

While commercial users will have to absorb higher costs, households have received relief as domestic LPG cylinder prices remain unchanged. The decision is expected to protect residential consumers from immediate inflationary pressures and maintain affordability for millions of households dependent on LPG for cooking fuel.

The absence of any increase in domestic cylinder prices is likely to be welcomed by consumers, especially at a time when food and household expenses remain elevated.

Government Focuses on Fuel Security

The latest price revision comes as the government intensifies efforts to strengthen India's energy security framework. Officials from the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas have emphasized the importance of maintaining adequate reserves to safeguard against potential supply disruptions arising from geopolitical tensions and global market volatility.

Authorities are working closely with oil marketing companies to ensure sufficient LPG inventory levels across the country. Plans are also being explored to maintain larger strategic reserves that can support uninterrupted supplies during emergencies or periods of heightened global uncertainty.

Global Uncertainty Keeps Energy Markets on Edge

International energy markets continue to be influenced by geopolitical developments, particularly tensions in West Asia, which remain a critical region for global crude oil and gas supplies. Rising transportation costs, shipping disruptions, and fluctuations in energy prices have prompted governments and energy companies worldwide to strengthen contingency planning.

India, one of the world's largest energy consumers, remains focused on securing adequate fuel supplies while minimizing the impact of global volatility on domestic consumers and businesses.

Outlook

Although the latest increase is limited to commercial LPG cylinders, businesses dependent on fuel-intensive operations will closely monitor future price movements. Market participants expect oil marketing companies to continue adjusting commercial fuel prices in response to international energy trends, exchange rate fluctuations, and supply-demand dynamics.

For now, the government's assurance of adequate LPG availability and ongoing efforts to strengthen strategic reserves provide confidence that fuel supplies will remain stable despite global uncertainties.
