Net profit jumps 156%, lending business crosses key milestone and fresh capital infusion strengthens long-term growth outlook despite stock's weak performance in 2026

Jio Financial Services Ltd. (JFSL) witnessed strong buying interest on Friday after reporting an impressive set of June quarter results, with the stock surging nearly 6% in intraday trade. Investors cheered the company's robust earnings growth, expanding lending business and continued capital support from its promoter group, reinforcing optimism about its long-term growth strategy.

The Reliance Group-backed financial services company opened at ₹247.50 on the National Stock Exchange (NSE), significantly higher than its previous closing price of ₹235.65, and touched an intraday high of ₹249.95. Although the stock has staged a sharp recovery following the quarterly results, it remains around 16.4% lower on a year-to-date basis, making 2026 its weakest calendar year since listing in 2023. Even so, the latest earnings have encouraged analysts to maintain positive recommendations, citing strong business momentum across lending, payments, insurance and asset management.

June Quarter Delivers Strong Earnings Growth

Jio Financial reported an exceptional performance for the first quarter of FY27, with consolidated net profit soaring 156% year-on-year to ₹830 crore, compared with ₹325 crore in the corresponding quarter last year.

The earnings growth was driven by steady expansion across the company's financial services businesses, higher investment income and growing contribution from its lending operations. The results indicate that the company is successfully scaling its diversified business model while continuing to invest in new growth opportunities.

Net Interest Income More Than Doubles

The company's core lending business also delivered healthy growth during the quarter.

Net Interest Income (NII) increased 106% year-on-year to ₹540 crore, reflecting the rapid expansion of its loan portfolio and improving lending operations.

In addition, other income surged 306% to ₹1,040 crore, supported by:

  • Dividend income of ₹510 crore

  • Investment income of ₹210 crore

  • Higher treasury and investment-related earnings

The combination of stronger lending income and robust investment returns significantly boosted overall profitability.

Promoter Capital Infusion Strengthens Balance Sheet

Jio Financial continued to receive strong financial backing from its promoter group during the quarter.

The company received the second tranche of capital amounting to ₹5,934 crore, taking the total promoter capital infusion to ₹9,890 crore.

Management has indicated that an additional ₹6,000 crore is expected to be infused over the coming quarters.

The fresh capital will be utilised to accelerate expansion across multiple businesses, including:

  • Retail lending

  • Digital payments

  • Insurance

  • Asset management

  • Wealth management

  • Financial marketplaces

The strengthened capital base also provides sufficient financial flexibility to support future growth without increasing leverage significantly.

Jio Credit Crosses ₹30,000 Crore AUM Milestone

One of the key highlights of the quarter was the continued expansion of Jio Credit, which has emerged as the company's primary growth engine.

Assets Under Management (AUM) crossed the ₹30,000 crore mark during the quarter, reflecting strong demand for the company's lending products and successful customer acquisition.

The rapid scaling of the lending business demonstrates the company's ability to leverage Reliance's digital ecosystem, extensive customer reach and technology platform to build a competitive retail financial services franchise.

Payments, Insurance and Asset Management Continue to Expand

Apart from lending, Jio Financial continued to strengthen its presence across multiple financial segments.

The company reported encouraging progress in:

  • Digital payment solutions

  • Insurance distribution

  • Asset management business

  • Financial marketplace services

While many of these businesses remain in the investment phase, management believes they represent significant long-term revenue opportunities as customer adoption continues to improve.

Operating Expenses Remain Elevated

Despite the impressive earnings growth, analysts noted that operating expenses remained relatively high.

The increase reflects ongoing investments in technology infrastructure, product development, customer acquisition and expansion of newly established businesses.

However, most brokerages believe these investments are necessary to build a comprehensive financial services platform capable of generating sustainable long-term growth.

Brokerages Continue to Recommend the Stock

Following the strong quarterly performance, brokerage firms retained their positive outlook on Jio Financial.

Motilal Oswal Financial Services (MOFSL)

MOFSL reiterated its 'Buy' recommendation with a target price of ₹315.

According to the brokerage:

  • Consolidated PAT is expected to grow at a 46% CAGR between FY26 and FY28.

  • Jio Credit continues to scale rapidly.

  • Payments business profitability is improving steadily.

  • Insurance and asset management businesses are gaining traction.

Although the brokerage reduced FY27 and FY28 earnings estimates marginally due to higher operating expenses, it maintained confidence in the company's long-term earnings potential.

Interestingly, MOFSL's valuation does not yet assign value to several emerging businesses such as:

  • Wealth management

  • Broking

  • Insurance manufacturing

  • Financial marketplace platforms

These businesses could provide additional upside as they mature over the coming years.

Technical Charts Signal Possible Breakout

Market technicians also see improving momentum in the stock.

According to technical analysts, Jio Financial had been consolidating within a ₹227–247 range for nearly two months.

Friday's rally has brought the stock close to the upper boundary of that consolidation zone.

Several technical indicators have turned positive:

  • DI+ has crossed above DI− on the ADX indicator.

  • Relative Strength Index (RSI) has moved higher.

  • Buying volumes have increased after the earnings announcement.

Analysts believe a decisive close above the ₹247–250 resistance zone could trigger a fresh breakout, potentially taking the stock towards the ₹255–260 range.

On the downside, immediate support is seen between ₹230 and ₹235, where buying interest may emerge if the stock witnesses profit booking.

Market Performance Still Lags Despite Rally

Despite Friday's sharp gains, Jio Financial continues to underperform broader equity markets this year.

The stock remains more than 16% below its level at the beginning of 2026, compared with a decline of around 7% in the Nifty 50 Index over the same period.

The underperformance largely reflects concerns regarding elevated valuations following its listing, higher operating expenses during the expansion phase and slower-than-expected monetisation of some new businesses.

However, analysts believe improving earnings visibility and business diversification could gradually narrow this gap.

Growth Drivers Ahead

Looking ahead, investors will closely monitor several key growth catalysts:

  • Expansion of the retail lending business

  • Growth in digital payment transactions

  • Scaling of insurance and wealth management operations

  • Deployment of fresh promoter capital

  • Partnerships across financial products

  • Improvement in operating leverage and profitability

Execution across these areas will determine the pace of earnings growth over the next few years.

Investment Outlook

Jio Financial's June quarter results underline the company's steady transformation into a diversified financial services powerhouse. Strong profit growth, rapid expansion of its lending business, improving contribution from multiple financial verticals and continued promoter support have strengthened investor confidence.

While near-term profitability may continue to be affected by higher investments in building new businesses, the company appears well-positioned to benefit from India's rapidly expanding digital financial ecosystem.

With a robust capital base, growing customer reach and multiple business engines under development, Jio Financial is steadily laying the foundation for sustainable long-term growth. If execution remains consistent and its emerging businesses achieve scale, the company could become one of India's leading integrated financial services platforms over the coming years, making it a stock that investors will continue to watch closely.
