Strong quarterly earnings, record battery electric vehicle revenue, a robust order book and fresh business wins lifted investor sentiment towards Sona BLW Precision Forgings.

Strong quarterly earnings, record battery electric vehicle revenue, a robust order book and fresh business wins lifted investor sentiment towards Sona BLW Precision Forgings. However, a contraction in EBITDA margin remains an important factor to monitor as the company expands its electric mobility and advanced automotive technology businesses.

Shares of Sona BLW Precision Forgings surged nearly 10% on Tuesday, October 27, hitting a new lifetime high after the auto components manufacturer reported strong financial performance for the second quarter of FY27. The stock extended its recent rally as investors responded to double-digit growth in revenue and profit, increasing electric vehicle exposure and a substantial pipeline of new business opportunities.

The stock touched a record high of ₹858.95 on the National Stock Exchange (NSE). At around 11:25 AM, it was trading at ₹852.30, up ₹70.40 or 9% for the session, with approximately 11.10 million shares changing hands.

Sona BLW has gained around 15% over the preceding two trading sessions and climbed approximately 96% from its 52-week low of ₹437.70, recorded on January 21, 2026. The sharp appreciation reflects growing investor interest in the company's earnings momentum and its positioning in the electric mobility supply chain.

The rally also stood out against a relatively subdued broader market, with the Nifty 50 trading marginally lower during the session.

Q2 FY27 Net Profit Rises 29.9% to ₹223.4 Crore

Sona BLW reported a strong improvement in its financial performance for the quarter ended September 2026, supported by higher revenue and continued expansion in its electric vehicle-related business.

The company's net profit increased 29.9% year-on-year to ₹223.40 crore in Q2 FY27, compared with ₹172 crore in the corresponding quarter of the previous financial year.

Revenue from operations rose 35.2% to ₹1,546.40 crore from ₹1,144 crore a year earlier. The faster growth in revenue highlights the company's ability to expand its business across automotive components and emerging mobility technologies.

Earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) increased 23.3% year-on-year to ₹356.20 crore, compared with ₹289 crore in Q2 FY26.

Despite the growth in absolute EBITDA, profitability margins came under pressure. The EBITDA margin declined to 23% from 25.2% a year earlier, representing a contraction of 220 basis points.

The margin movement suggests that revenue growth did not translate into a proportionate increase in operating profitability. Investors will therefore be watching whether the company can improve operating leverage and protect margins as volumes expand.

Battery Electric Vehicle Revenue Jumps 129%

One of the most significant highlights of Sona BLW's quarterly performance was the sharp acceleration in its battery electric vehicle business.

According to the company's exchange filing, revenue from battery electric vehicles (BEVs) increased 129% year-on-year during Q2 FY27. BEVs accounted for a record 51% of the company's revenue, marking the highest contribution from this segment to date.

The growing contribution from electric mobility is strategically important as automotive manufacturers continue to develop and expand their electric vehicle portfolios. Component suppliers with relevant engineering capabilities and established customer relationships may benefit as vehicle manufacturers introduce new electric platforms.

For Sona BLW, the increasing BEV revenue share demonstrates the growing importance of electric mobility within its business mix. It also highlights the company's exposure to structural changes in the automotive industry, where demand for advanced propulsion systems and specialised components is evolving.

However, the long-term financial benefits will depend on the company's ability to sustain growth, maintain pricing discipline, manage production costs and convert rising demand into healthy margins and cash flows.

First-Half Performance Shows Strong Earnings Momentum

Sona BLW's performance during the first half of FY27 also remained robust.

For H1 FY27, the company's net profit increased 36% year-on-year to ₹403 crore, while revenue rose 43% to ₹2,857 crore.

The stronger first-half growth indicates that the company's Q2 performance was supported by a broader expansion in its business rather than revenue growth alone in a single quarter.

Management also highlighted progress across financial performance, technology development, new product introductions, order wins and cash generation.

Commenting on the quarterly performance, Vivek Vikram Singh, Managing Director and Group Chief Executive Officer of Sona BLW, described the quarter as particularly strong across several business metrics. He also pointed to the company's quality journey and the recognition associated with the Deming Award.

The combination of earnings growth, new business development and operational execution will remain important in determining whether the company can sustain its growth trajectory through the remainder of FY27.

New Business Wins Reach ₹3,600 Crore; Order Book at ₹25,100 Crore

Sona BLW secured ₹3,600 crore in new business during the quarter, taking its net order book to ₹25,100 crore.

According to management, the order book represented the company's second-highest quarter-end level, providing visibility into potential future business activity.

A strong order book can support medium-term revenue visibility, particularly for automotive component manufacturers that supply products over multiple vehicle production cycles. However, the pace at which these orders translate into revenue depends on customer production schedules, product launches, execution timelines and broader automotive demand.

The company's focus on research and development and strategic partnerships is also intended to support the development of new products and technologies.

Management's emphasis on cash generation is another important aspect of the quarterly performance. Strong cash conversion can help fund research, capital expenditure and business expansion while reducing dependence on external financing.

Investors should nevertheless distinguish between the headline order book and revenue that has already been recognised. The actual financial contribution will depend on execution and the commercial terms attached to the contracts.

Elara Securities Maintains Buy Rating, Raises Target Price to ₹1,005

Following the results, Elara Securities reiterated its 'Buy' rating on Sona BLW and increased its target price to ₹1,005.

The brokerage also raised its estimated earnings per share for FY27 to FY29 by 3–4%, citing better-than-expected quarterly performance.

Elara highlighted the company's ability to develop new business lines through internal research and development and strategic partnerships. According to the brokerage, more than 35% of Sona BLW's revenue now comes from products that were not part of its portfolio seven years ago.

This diversification is significant because it indicates that the company has expanded beyond its earlier product mix and developed additional sources of revenue.

Elara also highlighted the potential opportunities arising from the company's partnership with DENSO and its exposure to physical AI-related technologies. The brokerage believes these initiatives could broaden the company's addressable market over time.

However, it noted that the financial contribution from the second DENSO joint venture is expected to become visible around FY30. The potential contribution from this opportunity therefore remains a longer-term consideration rather than an immediate earnings driver.

Elara's valuation assessment includes the possibility of a larger addressable market emerging from these initiatives, although the brokerage stated that it had not incorporated the potential value discussed for the opportunity into its formal valuation.

The revised target price reflects the brokerage's assessment of Sona BLW's growth prospects and earnings potential. It should not be interpreted as a guaranteed future market price.

Research and Development Could Support Long-Term Growth

Product innovation has become an increasingly important part of Sona BLW's growth strategy.

Automotive component suppliers are adapting to changing vehicle architectures, electrification, automation and the growing integration of software and advanced technologies into mobility systems.

Companies that invest consistently in research and development may be better positioned to develop specialised products and establish relationships with manufacturers launching new vehicle platforms.

Sona BLW's expanding product portfolio and strategic partnerships could create opportunities to enter additional applications and markets. The ability to commercialise new technologies successfully, however, will depend on development timelines, customer adoption, production capabilities and the company's ability to generate adequate returns on its investments.

The contribution from newer products also matters for profitability. Investors will need to assess whether new business lines generate attractive margins and improve the company's overall earnings quality as their revenue share increases.

Key Risks: Margin Contraction and Elevated Valuation Expectations

Despite the strong results and the stock's record-high performance, several factors warrant attention.

EBITDA margin pressure: The decline in EBITDA margin from 25.2% to 23% indicates that operating profitability did not keep pace with revenue growth. Sustained margin compression could affect earnings expectations if it is not offset by higher volumes or improved operational efficiency.

Strong share-price appreciation: The stock has risen approximately 96% from its January 2026 low and recently reached a lifetime high. Following such a rally, the market may already be factoring in substantial future growth. Any disappointment in subsequent earnings or business execution could lead to volatility.

Execution of the order book: The ₹25,100 crore net order book provides business visibility, but its value depends on timely execution, customer demand and conversion into profitable revenue.

Electric vehicle market dynamics: Although BEV revenue is growing rapidly, the pace of electric vehicle adoption can vary across markets and manufacturers. Changes in customer production plans, pricing pressures or competition could affect growth.

Long-term technology investments: Partnerships and emerging technology opportunities can expand the addressable market, but their financial contribution may take several years to materialise. Investors should assess the timelines, investment requirements and expected returns associated with these initiatives.

These factors do not negate the company's strong quarterly performance, but they underline the importance of evaluating earnings sustainability alongside revenue growth.

Market Outlook

Sona BLW Precision Forgings delivered strong Q2 FY27 results, with net profit rising 29.9%, revenue increasing 35.2% and BEV revenue surging 129%. Its record-high BEV revenue contribution, ₹3,600 crore in new business wins and ₹25,100 crore net order book strengthen the company's growth narrative.

The key question for the coming quarters is whether the company can sustain its growth while restoring operating margins. Investors will also monitor order execution, cash generation, new product development and the contribution of strategic partnerships.

The stock's sharp rally and record-high valuation make future earnings delivery particularly important. While Elara Securities remains positive and has raised its target price to ₹1,005, investors should evaluate the company's valuation against its growth prospects, profitability and execution risks rather than relying solely on recent share-price momentum.
