‘E-PRAAPTI’ to simplify recovery of unclaimed provident fund savings and enable seamless account activation

In a significant move to improve accessibility and transparency in retirement savings, the Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) is set to launch a new Aadhaar-enabled platform, E-PRAAPTI (EPF Aadhaar-Based Access Portal for Tracking Inoperative Accounts). The initiative aims to help millions of subscribers track, access, and reactivate their dormant provident fund (PF) accounts with ease.

Announced by Union Labour Minister Mansukh Mandaviya, the platform is expected to address the long-standing issue of unclaimed PF deposits, particularly for individuals with legacy accounts or those lacking a Universal Account Number (UAN).

Addressing the Challenge of Dormant PF Accounts

A substantial portion of provident fund savings in India remains unclaimed due to incomplete documentation, job changes, or lack of awareness among employees. Many older EPF accounts were created before the introduction of UAN, making them difficult to trace and access.

The E-PRAAPTI portal is designed to bridge this gap by allowing users to independently identify their inactive accounts and initiate the process of reclaiming their funds. This is expected to bring greater financial inclusion and ensure that workers can benefit from their accumulated savings.

Aadhaar-Based Authentication at the Core

The new system will leverage Aadhaar authentication to provide a secure and user-friendly interface. By verifying identity through Aadhaar-linked credentials, users will be able to access their old EPF accounts—even those not previously linked to a UAN.

Once authenticated, subscribers can update their profile details, link their accounts to a UAN, and activate them seamlessly. This digital-first approach eliminates the need for cumbersome paperwork and reduces dependency on employer intervention.

Key Features of the E-PRAAPTI Portal

The upcoming portal is expected to offer several user-centric features, including:

  • Easy identification of inactive or unclaimed EPF accounts
  • Secure Aadhaar-based login and verification
  • Step-by-step process for updating member details
  • Seamless UAN generation and linking
  • Faster processing of account activation and fund access

These features aim to simplify the entire lifecycle of PF account recovery, making it more efficient and transparent.

Boost to Digital Governance and Financial Inclusion

The launch of E-PRAAPTI aligns with the government’s broader push toward digital governance and citizen-centric services. By enabling individuals to directly access their retirement savings, the initiative strengthens trust in the system and promotes financial security.

It also supports India’s growing digital infrastructure by integrating identity verification with financial services, reducing delays and minimizing administrative hurdles.

What It Means for EPF Subscribers

For millions of EPF members, especially those who have changed jobs multiple times or lost track of older accounts, the new portal could be a game-changer. It provides a straightforward way to recover funds that may have remained inaccessible for years.

With E-PRAAPTI, EPFO is not only addressing a critical operational challenge but also empowering individuals to take control of their long-term savings with greater ease and confidence.

Conclusion

The introduction of the Aadhaar-based E-PRAAPTI portal marks a pivotal step
