Revenue rises 61%, profit more than doubles as order inflows surge; ₹7,237-crore order book and Changodar expansion support growth prospects

Shares of Transformers and Rectifiers (India) Limited (TRIL) surged sharply in Wednesday’s trading session on October 14, 2026, after the power equipment manufacturer reported a strong performance for the July–September quarter of FY27. The company’s revenue grew by more than 60% year-on-year, while its net profit more than doubled, supported by improved execution, higher capacity utilisation and a significant expansion in operating margins.

The stock rose as much as 14% during early trading and subsequently traded at ₹354.05, up ₹49.35 or 16.20%, according to the market data cited in the report. It touched an intraday high of ₹360.80. The rally came against a relatively subdued broader market, with the BSE Sensex trading marginally lower in early deals.

With the latest advance, TRIL shares have gained approximately 28% during October, reflecting investor optimism over the company’s quarterly performance, robust order inflows and expansion plans. However, the stock remains below its reported 52-week high of ₹495.80, highlighting the importance of evaluating the rally alongside valuation, execution and capacity-expansion risks.

Q2FY27 Results: Revenue and Profitability Improve Sharply

TRIL reported revenue of ₹739.4 crore for the September quarter, representing year-on-year growth of 60.7% compared with ₹460 crore in the corresponding quarter of the previous financial year. The increase reflects stronger business execution and improved manufacturing performance, although comparisons are also influenced by the relatively lower base in Q2FY26.

Profitability improved at a faster pace than revenue. Earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) rose 149.9% year-on-year to ₹128.8 crore. The EBITDA margin expanded to 17.4%, compared with 11.2% a year earlier and 16.3% in the June quarter.

The 621-basis-point year-on-year improvement in EBITDA margin indicates a meaningful recovery in operating profitability. Higher capacity utilisation, better execution and operating leverage across manufacturing facilities were identified as key contributors to the improvement.

Profit after tax (PAT) increased 117.9% year-on-year to ₹81.4 crore. The more-than-doubling of net profit, alongside strong revenue growth, indicates that the company is converting a larger proportion of sales into operating earnings and bottom-line profit.

The sustainability of this improvement will be important in the coming quarters. Investors will need to assess whether margins can remain near current levels as production expands, project execution increases and the company handles a larger order pipeline.

Order Inflows Nearly Double; Order Book Reaches ₹7,237 Crore

A major positive from the quarter was the sharp increase in new orders. TRIL recorded order inflows of ₹1,169 crore in Q2FY27, up approximately 97% year-on-year. This lifted the unexecuted order book to ₹7,237 crore, representing growth of 32% over the previous year.

A sizeable order book provides visibility into future business activity because it represents orders that remain to be executed. For a capital-goods manufacturer, the ability to convert these orders into revenue on schedule is a critical determinant of growth and cash generation.

The existing order book is expected to support revenue visibility over the next 18–24 months, according to ICICI Securities. Nevertheless, the pace of execution, project timelines, customer payments and working-capital requirements will influence how effectively the company translates its order position into financial performance.

₹21,000-Crore Inquiry Pipeline Offers Additional Growth Potential

Beyond confirmed orders, TRIL has an inquiry pipeline of approximately ₹21,000 crore. The company stated that the historical order-win ratio for this pipeline is around 10–15%, suggesting that only a portion of the opportunities under consideration may eventually translate into orders.

Approximately 80% of the current bidding pipeline comprises domestic opportunities, while the remaining 20% relates to exports. The opportunities are spread across government and private-sector customers in utility and industrial segments.

The pipeline provides potential for future order inflows, but it should not be treated as confirmed business. Actual conversion will depend on tender outcomes, pricing, competition, customer decisions and project schedules. Investors should therefore distinguish between the company’s existing order book and opportunities that are still under negotiation.

Changodar Expansion: A Key Execution Milestone

The company’s capacity-expansion programme at Changodar is another important factor in its growth outlook. According to ICICI Securities, the expansion is nearing completion, with commercial production expected around Diwali.

Additional capacity could help TRIL address a larger opportunity pipeline, improve its ability to fulfil orders and support its stated growth ambitions. However, the benefits will depend on timely commissioning, a smooth production ramp-up and the utilisation of the expanded facilities.

Expansion projects also carry execution risks. Delays, higher-than-expected costs, operational challenges or slower-than-anticipated demand could affect the timing and scale of the expected benefits. Consequently, commercial production and subsequent capacity utilisation will remain important milestones for investors to monitor.

Nuclear Power Orders and Export Ambitions

TRIL is also seeking to expand its presence across strategic power infrastructure projects and international markets. Management highlighted the company’s entry into the nuclear power segment through the Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited’s Kaiga Units 5 and 6 project.

The company also cited recent orders from Damodar Valley Corporation and Gujarat Energy Transmission Corporation Limited as evidence of customer confidence in its engineering and manufacturing capabilities.

The nuclear power opportunity is relevant because India’s longer-term energy and infrastructure requirements could create demand for specialised electrical equipment. However, investors should assess the scale, execution schedule and commercial contribution of individual projects rather than assuming that participation in a strategic sector will automatically translate into sustained earnings growth.

Internationally, TRIL is strengthening customer engagement through its UK subsidiary, particularly in the United States and Europe. Export opportunities could broaden the company’s customer base, but overseas growth may also involve certification requirements, competition, project-specific risks and longer sales cycles.

ICICI Securities: Revenue Visibility and FY27 Guidance in Focus

ICICI Securities has highlighted the improvement in operating performance, supported by better execution, higher capacity utilisation and operating leverage. The brokerage believes the current order book offers comfortable revenue visibility, while the inquiry pipeline provides scope for additional business.

Management remains on track to achieve its FY27 guidance of 25% revenue growth and an EBITDA margin of 16%, according to the brokerage’s assessment. The Changodar expansion and the company’s ability to maintain profitability as production increases will be important factors in determining whether these targets are achieved.

The reported Q2 EBITDA margin of 17.4% was above the stated FY27 margin guidance of 16%. While this is encouraging, one quarter’s performance does not establish that the higher margin can be maintained for the full financial year. Changes in product mix, input costs, execution schedules and capacity utilisation could influence subsequent results.

Key Risks Investors Should Monitor

Despite the strong quarterly numbers, several factors deserve attention before investors draw conclusions from the sharp share-price rally.

Execution risk: A large order book creates an opportunity for growth, but delays in manufacturing, delivery or project commissioning could defer revenue recognition and cash flows.

Margin sustainability: The substantial improvement in EBITDA margin is a positive development. The key question is whether the company can sustain operating efficiency as volumes rise and new capacity comes online.

Order conversion: The ₹21,000-crore inquiry pipeline is a potential source of future business, not confirmed revenue. The actual order-win rate may differ from historical levels.

Working capital and cash flow: Rapid growth in manufacturing and project-based businesses can increase inventory and receivables. Investors should examine cash-flow generation alongside reported profits.

Valuation and volatility: A 28% monthly gain can increase expectations for future performance. The stock’s valuation relative to its growth prospects, earnings quality and peers should be assessed before making an investment decision.

Market Outlook

Transformers and Rectifiers’ Q2FY27 results point to a strong improvement in revenue, operating margins and profitability. Rising order inflows, a ₹7,237-crore order book and the planned commissioning of additional capacity at Changodar provide a supportive foundation for the company’s near-term growth prospects. Its participation in major power infrastructure projects and efforts to develop export markets could offer further opportunities over time.

The next phase of the investment story will depend on execution. Timely capacity ramp-up, conversion of inquiries into firm orders, sustained margins and healthy cash-flow generation will be crucial in determining whether the recent earnings momentum continues.

The sharp October rally reflects improving sentiment following the results, but share-price momentum alone does not establish that the stock is attractively valued. Investors should evaluate the company’s valuation, financial performance, execution track record and risk profile against their investment horizon and risk tolerance before making any decision.
