Shares of the newly listed auto-component maker touched ₹167.45 intraday, nearly doubling from the ₹84 IPO price as investors focus on its EV powertrain portfolio, global OEM relationships and growth prospects

Hero Motors has emerged as one of the standout performers among recently listed stocks, with its share price climbing sharply within days of its market debut. The stock touched a fresh high of ₹167.45 on the BSE during Thursday’s trading session, October 1, 2026, marking a gain of nearly 99 per cent over its IPO price of ₹84.

The stock was trading at ₹166.93 around 12:04 PM, up 9.43 per cent on the day, according to market data cited by Business Standard. The day's trading range stood between ₹159.03 and ₹167.80. The stock has now gained around 108 per cent from its listing-day low of ₹80.50.

Hero Motors made its stock-market debut on September 23, 2026. Its shares had initially listed at ₹82.10 on the BSE, a 2.26 per cent discount to the ₹84 issue price, before recovering strongly.

From a muted debut to a sharp post-listing rally

The contrast between Hero Motors' listing and its subsequent performance has been notable. The stock opened below its issue price on debut day, but buying interest emerged quickly. It subsequently experienced periods of sharp volatility, including a 10 per cent lower circuit on September 28 amid profit booking.

Despite that correction, the stock continued to recover and has since moved to a fresh record high. The latest rally has taken the stock roughly 99 per cent above its IPO price in only seven trading sessions.

At the current market price, investors are placing a significantly higher valuation on Hero Motors than they did during the IPO. This makes the company's ability to deliver on its growth plans increasingly important for sustaining the market's expectations.

₹1,000 crore IPO and deployment of fresh capital

Hero Motors raised ₹1,000 crore through its initial public offering. The issue consisted of a fresh issue of ₹600 crore and an offer-for-sale component of ₹400 crore. The price band was fixed at ₹79-84 per share, with the upper end valuing the company at about ₹3,815 crore at the time of the IPO.

The company has earmarked ₹190 crore of the fresh issue proceeds towards repayment or prepayment of borrowings. Another ₹200 crore has been allocated for equipment purchases to expand capacity at its Gautam Buddha Nagar facility in Uttar Pradesh.

The remaining funds are intended for inorganic growth, including potential acquisitions that had not been identified at the time of the IPO, along with general corporate purposes.

EV and e-mobility exposure emerges as a key growth driver

A major part of the investor interest around Hero Motors is linked to its increasing exposure to electric mobility.

The company develops and manufactures engineered powertrain solutions, gears and transmissions, bike powertrain systems, electric motors and alloy and metallic components. Its products serve two-wheelers, e-bikes, performance vehicles, electric vehicles and other mobility applications.

According to Moneycontrol's IPO research, e-mobility revenue accounted for roughly 23 per cent of Hero Motors' total revenue, highlighting the growing contribution of EV-related products to its business.

Business Standard also reported, citing ICICI Securities' IPO analysis, that EV-related products and services contributed 23 per cent of FY26 revenue, compared with 12 per cent in FY24.

The company's exposure extends beyond electric passenger vehicles. Hero Motors has developed capabilities in e-bike powertrain systems and CVT hubs, giving it exposure to the expanding global electric two-wheeler and e-bike ecosystem.

Global OEM relationships provide a long-term customer base

Hero Motors has established relationships with several global automotive and mobility companies, including BMW, Ducati Motor, Enviolo International and Formula Motorsport.

The company operates six manufacturing facilities across India, the United Kingdom and Thailand and supplies engineered powertrain solutions to OEMs in the United States, Europe, India and the ASEAN region.

Its relationships with major customers are also relatively long-standing. Business Standard reported that the average relationship with its top five customers exceeds 12 years, while the company has an exclusive-supplier position on several BMW projects.

This customer stickiness can provide visibility for new programmes, although concentration with major OEM customers remains an important factor investors need to track.

Financial performance shows improvement

Hero Motors entered the public market after reporting a stronger financial performance in FY26.

Revenue from operations increased 9.06 per cent year-on-year to ₹1,188.4 crore in FY26 from ₹1,089.6 crore in FY25. Net profit rose 72.9 per cent to ₹43.6 crore from ₹25.2 crore during the same period.

The sharp improvement in profit was faster than revenue growth, indicating an improvement in profitability during the period. However, the company's relatively modest absolute earnings base means that future valuation expectations will depend heavily on sustained revenue growth, operating leverage and successful expansion into higher-value powertrain and EV applications.

Technology investments strengthen product capabilities

Hero Motors has expanded its technology portfolio through partnerships and acquisitions. These include its Yamaha Motors Japan joint venture, the acquisition of Hewland Engineering and the STP Group joint venture.

The objective has been to broaden capabilities across electric motors, transmission systems and alloy and metallic components.

This diversification is significant because the automotive component industry is moving beyond traditional mechanical components toward electronically controlled powertrains, electrification, lightweight materials and integrated mobility systems.

For Hero Motors, increasing technology content per vehicle could create opportunities to increase the value of components supplied to OEM customers.

Global e-bike opportunity adds another growth avenue

The global e-bike market is another area being highlighted by analysts.

According to industry estimates cited in the company's IPO-related research, the global e-bike market could grow at a 6-9 per cent CAGR between 2024 and 2031, while India's motorcycle EV penetration is projected to rise substantially over the same period.

Hero Motors has positioned itself in the e-bike powertrain segment through CVT hubs and integrated electric powertrain products. Its ability to expand exports and win new global OEM programmes will therefore be an important factor in determining how much of this projected industry growth translates into company revenue.

What investors need to monitor after the sharp rally

The rapid increase in Hero Motors' share price has also changed the risk-reward equation for the stock.

At ₹167.45, the market price is almost twice the ₹84 IPO price. Such a move in a newly listed stock can result in heightened volatility, particularly because the company has only a short public-market trading history.

Investors will need to monitor quarterly revenue growth, margins, cash generation, debt levels, capacity utilisation and the pace at which EV-related revenue expands.

Customer concentration is another factor. Large global OEM relationships provide credibility and programme visibility, but dependence on a relatively concentrated customer base can create risks if production schedules, sourcing decisions or vehicle demand change.

The company also faces the normal cyclical risks associated with the automotive industry, including raw-material prices, global vehicle production, foreign-exchange movements and changes in EV adoption.

Market Outlook

Hero Motors' post-listing rally has brought the stock into sharp market focus, particularly because its valuation has expanded rapidly in a matter of days. The company's underlying investment story is built around powertrain technology, EV exposure, e-bike systems, global OEM relationships and capacity expansion.

However, the sustainability of the rally will ultimately depend on whether earnings and cash flows grow sufficiently to support the higher market valuation. With the stock having nearly doubled from its IPO price, investors are likely to pay greater attention to upcoming financial results, new customer programmes, EV-related order wins, capacity utilisation and management's execution of the expansion strategy.

The immediate trading setup may remain volatile after such a sharp move, while the longer-term business trajectory will depend on Hero Motors converting its technology capabilities and global customer relationships into sustained revenue and profit growth.
