Steel manufacturer A-One Steels India makes a strong stock-market debut as shares open at ₹462 on BSE and ₹455 on NSE; ₹405-crore IPO subscribed 11.61 times
Shares of A-One Steels India made a strong debut on the Indian stock exchanges on Thursday, October 1, 2026, giving IPO investors a listing gain of more than 14 per cent on the BSE.
The stock opened at ₹462 per share on the BSE, representing a gain of ₹57, or 14.07 per cent, over its IPO issue price of ₹405.
On the NSE, A-One Steels shares debuted at ₹455 per share, translating into a gain of ₹50, or 12.35 per cent, from the issue price.
Following the listing, the company commanded a market capitalisation of approximately ₹3,568 crore, according to exchange data.
The debut came broadly in line with expectations indicated by the unofficial grey market ahead of listing, although grey-market premiums are not official indicators and can differ from actual market prices.
₹405-Crore IPO Attracted Strong Investor Demand
A-One Steels India had launched its initial public offering with a price band of ₹385-₹405 per share.
The IPO opened for subscription on September 24 and closed on September 28. The issue was subscribed 11.61 times, receiving bids for approximately 8.57 crore shares against 73.85 lakh shares on offer.
Investor participation was relatively broad across categories.
The qualified institutional buyer portion was subscribed around 7.30 times, while the non-institutional investor segment saw subscription of approximately 24.51 times. The retail portion was subscribed around 8.64 times.
The strong subscription provided a favourable backdrop for the company's stock-market debut.
IPO Structure: Fresh Issue and Offer for Sale
The ₹405-crore public issue consisted of a ₹355-crore fresh issue and an offer for sale worth ₹50 crore.
The OFS component involved promoter shareholders selling part of their holdings. The fresh issue proceeds, meanwhile, are intended primarily to reduce the company's outstanding debt.
A-One Steels plans to use ₹250 crore from the fresh issue proceeds for the prepayment or partial repayment of certain outstanding borrowings.
The remaining funds are earmarked for general corporate purposes.
This allocation makes debt reduction one of the key elements of the company's post-listing financial strategy.
Debt Reduction Remains a Key Focus
A-One Steels operates in a capital-intensive industry where borrowing levels and financing costs can have a significant influence on profitability.
The company's outstanding borrowings stood at approximately ₹1,158 crore as of July 15, 2026, according to IPO-related disclosures cited by Business Standard.
The proposed repayment of ₹250 crore would therefore represent a meaningful reduction in the company's debt burden.
Lower borrowings could potentially reduce finance costs and strengthen the balance sheet over time. However, the actual benefit will depend on the company's operating cash flows, future capital expenditure and steel-price environment.
Vertically Integrated Steel Manufacturing Business
A-One Steels India is a Bengaluru-headquartered steel manufacturer with an integrated production model.
The company operates across several stages of the steel-production value chain, including sponge iron, MS billets and finished steel products.
Its product portfolio includes:
-
TMT bars
-
Hot-rolled and cold-rolled coils
-
MS pipes
-
CR pipes
-
Galvanised pipes and tubes
-
Sponge iron
-
Met coke
-
Ferro alloys
The company's products are used across construction, infrastructure, power and industrial applications.
Its vertically integrated structure allows the company to use several intermediate products for captive consumption while also selling surplus production in the open market.
Manufacturing Capacity Exceeds 1.7 Million Tonnes
A-One Steels operates six manufacturing facilities across Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh.
As of March 2026, the company's aggregate installed capacity for intermediate, finished steel and industrial products stood at approximately 1.73 million tonnes per annum. Its crude steel capacity stood at around 570,000 tonnes per annum, according to IPO-related disclosures.
The scale of the manufacturing base provides the company with exposure to multiple segments of the steel value chain.
The company is also expanding its Koppal facility with an iron-ore beneficiation plant having planned capacity of 600,000 tonnes per annum. The project is scheduled to be commissioned in phases, with 50 per cent targeted for FY27 and the remaining capacity planned for FY28.
TMT Bars and Pipes Form Important Revenue Streams
A-One Steels has a diversified product portfolio, although some products account for a larger portion of its revenue.
TMT bars contributed around 29 per cent of FY26 revenue, making them the company's largest individual product category.
Pipes and tubes contributed approximately 21.7 per cent, followed by sponge iron at 10.91 per cent, coal at 10.45 per cent, met coke at 6.67 per cent and MS billets at 5.74 per cent.
The company's exposure to construction and infrastructure demand means that steel consumption trends, infrastructure spending and private-sector capital expenditure can influence its operating performance.
Revenue and Profitability Improve Sharply
A-One Steels reported significant improvement in its financial performance during FY2026.
Consolidated revenue increased 17.6 per cent to ₹4,167.33 crore in FY26 from ₹3,544.37 crore in FY25.
Operating profit increased sharply to ₹303.64 crore, compared with ₹174.06 crore in the previous year. The operating profit margin consequently improved to 7.3 per cent from 4.9 per cent.
Profit before tax increased to ₹167.02 crore from ₹25.85 crore, while consolidated net profit after minority interest rose to approximately ₹126.49 crore from ₹8.49 crore.
The improvement reflects a substantial recovery in profitability, although investors will need to assess whether these margins can be sustained across different steel-price cycles.
Renewable Power Procurement Supports Operations
Power costs are an important component of steel manufacturing, and A-One Steels has increasingly used renewable power arrangements.
The company has entered into long-term solar and wind power purchase agreements covering around 230 MW.
During FY2026, approximately 57.19 per cent of its power requirements were met through solar and wind sources, according to company disclosures.
The renewable-power strategy could help the company manage energy costs and reduce its exposure to conventional power-price volatility, although the overall impact will depend on power consumption, contract terms and steel production levels.
Domestic Market Remains the Core Revenue Base
A-One Steels remains predominantly focused on the Indian market.
Approximately 93.49 per cent of FY26 revenue came from domestic operations, while exports accounted for around 6.51 per cent.
This gives the company significant exposure to India's domestic construction and infrastructure cycle.
At the same time, the relatively limited export contribution means that domestic steel demand, regional economic activity and Indian steel prices remain particularly important factors for the company's revenue performance.
Brand Portfolio Includes A-One Gold
The company sells several products under the A-One Gold brand and also sells selected products under the Jindal brand through a licensing arrangement.
In FY26, products sold under the A-One Gold brand accounted for around 40.72 per cent of revenue, while products sold under the Jindal brand contributed approximately 9.98 per cent. Unbranded products represented about 49.29 per cent.
The branded portfolio provides the company with exposure to the retail and construction markets, particularly through products such as TMT bars.
Steel Prices and Raw Material Costs Remain Key Variables
As with other steel manufacturers, A-One Steels' profitability remains sensitive to movements in steel prices and raw-material costs.
Changes in the prices of iron ore, coal, scrap and other inputs can affect production economics. At the same time, a decline in finished-steel prices can compress margins if raw-material costs remain elevated.
The integrated nature of A-One Steels' operations can provide some cost advantages, but it does not completely eliminate the company's exposure to commodity-price cycles.
This makes margins and cash generation important metrics for investors to monitor following the listing.
IPO Listing Gives Investors a New Listed Steel Company
The successful debut adds A-One Steels to India's listed steel-manufacturing universe at a time when infrastructure investment, construction activity and domestic manufacturing remain important drivers of steel demand.
However, the listing gain itself does not establish the long-term performance of the company.
Investors will now be able to track the company's quarterly results, debt reduction, capacity expansion, operating margins and cash flows as a listed entity.
The company's ability to maintain the improvement seen in FY26 profitability while managing its leverage and commodity-price exposure will remain important after listing.
Market Outlook
A-One Steels' 14.07 per cent premium listing on the BSE reflects the strong demand seen during its IPO and the positive market response on debut.
Going forward, the key variables for the stock are likely to include steel prices, raw-material costs, debt reduction, capacity utilisation, infrastructure demand and execution of planned expansion projects.
The company's proposed ₹250-crore debt repayment is particularly important because a lower interest burden could support profitability if operating performance remains healthy.
At the same time, steel is a cyclical industry, and margins can change significantly with commodity prices and demand conditions. Investors will therefore be able to assess the company more clearly over the coming quarters as a listed entity through its earnings, cash flows, leverage and capacity-expansion progress.
