Nifty Smallcap 250 inclusion, strong June-quarter earnings and upgraded FY27 guidance combine to drive fresh buying in the multibagger stock

Shares of Cupid Limited extended their sharp rally on Wednesday, September 30, rising nearly 8 per cent and hitting a fresh record high as the stock entered the Nifty Smallcap 250 index. The move followed an 8.88 per cent gain in the previous session, taking Cupid's two-day rise to around 17 per cent.

The stock touched ₹310.50 on the NSE, compared with the previous close of ₹288. At around 11:10 AM, shares were trading near ₹310.20, up 7.71 per cent, with nearly 39.45 million shares changing hands on the NSE.

The latest rally comes at a time when Cupid is benefiting from both a major index-related development and a sharp improvement in its operating performance.

Nifty Smallcap 250 inclusion triggers passive-flow expectations

Cupid's entry into the Nifty Smallcap 250 is effective September 30 as part of NSE's latest semi-annual index rebalancing.

Index inclusion can increase the visibility of a stock among institutional investors and can require passive funds and exchange-traded products tracking the index to adjust their holdings.

According to Nuvama Alternative & Quantitative Research, Cupid could potentially receive around $10 million of inflows following its inclusion. This is an estimate of potential passive demand and should not be interpreted as a guaranteed investment flow.

The index-related buying interest has arrived after a substantial run-up in the stock, making Cupid one of the notable performers in the small-cap universe this year.

Stock has delivered multibagger returns

Cupid has already recorded an exceptionally strong price performance.

According to the market data cited in the latest reports, the stock had gained roughly 195 per cent year-to-date and more than 600 per cent over the preceding year before Wednesday's latest move. The stock had also spent the previous two months consolidating in the ₹255–₹295 range before breaking above that zone.

Technical analyst Harish Jujarey of Prithvi Finmart said the breakout was accompanied by strong volumes and identified ₹275, around the 20-day EMA, as an important support level. The analyst placed potential upside targets in the ₹335–₹350 region. These are technical-market views and are not company guidance.

The rapid appreciation, however, also means that expectations embedded in the share price have increased significantly.

Strong June-quarter performance adds fundamental support

The index inclusion is only one part of the recent story.

Cupid reported a substantial improvement in its June 2026 quarter. Consolidated revenue from operations rose to ₹154.72 crore from ₹59.80 crore a year earlier, representing growth of about 159 per cent.

Net profit increased to ₹44.15 crore from ₹15.01 crore, while EBITDA rose to ₹62.32 crore from ₹21.41 crore.

The company's total income during the quarter was about ₹157 crore, while EBITDA margin stood at approximately 39 per cent.

The numbers indicate that the stock's rally has coincided with a substantial acceleration in the underlying business rather than being driven solely by index-related buying.

Cupid raises FY27 revenue and profit guidance

Following the strong June-quarter performance, Cupid raised its FY27 financial guidance.

The company now expects FY27 revenue of ₹725–750 crore and net profit of ₹210–225 crore.

Cupid has also set longer-term revenue targets of ₹1,085 crore for FY28 and ₹1,500 crore for FY29. The company has cited its order pipeline and momentum across its global healthcare and domestic consumer businesses as key factors behind the revised outlook.

The revised guidance is significant because it suggests management expects the growth momentum witnessed during FY26 and the first quarter of FY27 to continue.

Global healthcare and consumer businesses

Cupid operates across two broad growth engines: its international healthcare business and its domestic consumer business.

The company manufactures and markets male and female condoms, water-based lubricants and a range of other healthcare and consumer products. Its portfolio also includes in-vitro diagnostic products and other personal-care categories.

International markets remain important to the company's business. According to recent company-related disclosures reported by ETMarkets, exports reached around ₹208 crore in FY26 and accounted for nearly 60 per cent of revenue, with the company operating across more than 125 countries.

This international exposure provides Cupid with a wider addressable market, although it also exposes the company to currency movements, regulatory requirements and demand conditions across multiple countries.

Manufacturing expansion could support future growth

Cupid is also expanding its manufacturing capacity.

The company is developing a new 170,000-square-foot facility at Palava, which is expected to be commissioned in the next quarter. At full capacity, the facility is expected to take annual production capability to approximately 1.25 billion male condoms and 125 million female condoms.

Cupid is also developing nitrile condom manufacturing capabilities and has received European IVDR certification for diagnostic test kits covering HIV, Hepatitis B, syphilis and pregnancy testing.

If these investments translate into additional orders and utilisation, they could become important contributors to the company's medium-term growth.

FY26 was already a strong growth year

Cupid entered FY27 after delivering a sharp improvement in its FY26 financial performance.

Total income increased to around ₹391 crore from ₹203 crore in FY25, while profit after tax rose to approximately ₹108 crore from ₹41 crore. EBITDA also recorded substantial growth during the year.

The company said it had exceeded its earlier FY26 revenue and profit guidance, ending the year with strong operating momentum.

The challenge for the company now is to sustain this rate of expansion as the revenue base becomes larger.

Why index inclusion matters

The Nifty Smallcap 250 inclusion can have several effects.

First, it increases the stock's representation within a widely tracked small-cap benchmark. Second, passive funds tracking the index may need to purchase the stock to maintain their benchmark allocation.

Third, greater index visibility can increase institutional awareness and trading activity.

However, passive flows are generally one-time or rebalancing-related demand rather than a substitute for sustained earnings growth. Once the index adjustment is completed, the stock's valuation and future performance will increasingly depend on business execution and earnings delivery.

The valuation and expectation risk

Cupid's sharp share-price appreciation has created a different challenge: maintaining investor expectations.

The stock has already risen several-fold over the past year, meaning future earnings growth will be closely watched against the elevated expectations reflected in the market price.

Any slowdown in exports, delays in capacity expansion, weaker consumer demand, margin pressure or a failure to meet management guidance could affect sentiment.

Conversely, continued order growth, successful commissioning of new manufacturing capacity and delivery against the FY27 guidance could provide further fundamental support.

What investors should monitor

Investors tracking Cupid should focus on several operating indicators rather than relying solely on the index-rebalancing effect.

Key factors include:

  • Execution against the ₹725–750 crore FY27 revenue guidance

  • Delivery against the ₹210–225 crore FY27 net profit target

  • New manufacturing capacity commissioning

  • Export order growth and international demand

  • Domestic consumer-business expansion

  • EBITDA margin sustainability

  • Working-capital requirements

  • Currency movements affecting exports

  • Progress in diagnostic and nitrile-product expansion

  • Actual institutional/passive flows following the index inclusion

Market Outlook

Cupid's latest rally has been supported by three identifiable catalysts: entry into the Nifty Smallcap 250, strong June-quarter earnings and an upgraded FY27 growth outlook.

The estimated $10 million passive inflow could provide short-term liquidity support, but the longer-term trajectory will depend on whether the company can convert its order pipeline, manufacturing expansion and international opportunities into sustained revenue and profit growth.

After the stock's rapid appreciation, market participants are likely to focus increasingly on quarterly execution and guidance delivery. The ₹275–₹295 zone that previously acted as a consolidation area could remain an important reference range for traders, while the company's upcoming capacity expansion and FY27 financial performance will be central to the fundamental narrative.
