Tile manufacturer makes a positive market debut at ₹155 on NSE despite muted grey-market indications
Varmora Granito shares made a stronger-than-expected debut on the stock exchanges on Tuesday, September 29, listing at a premium to the company's IPO price of ₹148. The positive opening came despite grey-market indications pointing towards a largely flat listing ahead of the debut.
On the BSE, Varmora Granito shares opened at ₹152, representing a premium of ₹4 or 2.7 per cent over the issue price. On the NSE, the stock debuted at ₹155, translating into a premium of ₹7 or 4.73 per cent. The listing therefore exceeded the muted expectations that had emerged in the grey market before the stock's debut.
IPO receives 1.58 times subscription
Varmora Granito's ₹708.02 crore initial public offering was open for subscription between September 22 and September 24, 2026. The issue received bids for around 5.34 crore shares against approximately 3.39 crore shares on offer, resulting in an overall subscription of 1.58 times.
Demand was strongest among qualified institutional buyers (QIBs), whose portion was subscribed 3.16 times. The retail portion was subscribed 1 time, while the non-institutional investor (NII) category was subscribed 0.92 times.
The IPO had a price band of ₹140–₹148 per share, with investors required to bid at the upper end for the final issue price of ₹148.
Fresh issue and offer-for-sale structure
The public issue comprised both a fresh issue and an offer-for-sale (OFS) component.
The fresh issue consisted of up to 2.16 crore shares, aggregating to approximately ₹320 crore at the upper price band. The OFS component comprised around 2.62 crore shares worth nearly ₹388 crore at ₹148 per share.
A significant portion of the fresh capital is intended for debt repayment. According to Moneycontrol, Varmora Granito plans to use around ₹245 crore from the fresh issue towards repayment of debt, with the balance earmarked for general corporate purposes.
The debt-reduction component could therefore be an important factor for investors assessing the company's balance-sheet position following the listing.
What does Varmora Granito do?
Varmora Granito manufactures and markets ceramic and vitrified tiles, including glazed vitrified tiles (GVT), polished vitrified tiles (PVT) and ceramic tiles.
The company operates manufacturing facilities in Gujarat's Morbi cluster, one of India's major ceramic manufacturing hubs. It has also built a broad distribution network covering domestic and international markets.
According to the IPO information, Varmora Granito has eight manufacturing facilities and a distribution network comprising around 305 exclusive brand outlets and 2,758 multi-brand outlets across India and overseas markets.
The company also caters to institutional and B2B customers, including builders, contractors, developers and government entities.
Premium and technology-driven tile portfolio
A key part of Varmora Granito's strategy is its focus on premium and technology-driven products.
Glazed vitrified tiles and technical tiles accounted for around 84 per cent of the company's tile revenue in FY2026, according to the information provided in the IPO documents.
This product mix gives the company exposure to the premiumisation trend in India's building-materials market, although the tile industry remains closely linked to construction activity, real-estate demand, housing cycles and input costs.
Renewable energy capacity adds another dimension
Varmora Granito also has renewable energy capacity through wind and solar projects.
The company has approximately 16.22 MW of renewable energy capacity, which can help reduce dependence on conventional power sources and potentially provide some insulation against energy-cost volatility.
However, profitability in the tile industry can still be affected by gas and electricity costs, freight expenses, raw-material prices and competitive pricing.
Financial performance and valuation
The company reported revenue of approximately ₹1,512.46 crore in FY2026, compared with ₹1,446.03 crore in FY2025. Profit after tax increased to around ₹55.09 crore in FY2026 from ₹30.77 crore a year earlier, according to available financial data.
Despite the positive earnings trajectory, valuation remains an important consideration following the listing.
Shivani Nyati, head of wealth at Swastika Investmart, noted that the stock's valuation was demanding at around 60 times post-listing earnings. She indicated that investors holding the stock could track ₹145 as a key downside level, while ₹155–₹160 could act as an important near-term range on the upside.
These are the views of the cited market analyst and should not be interpreted as a guaranteed price target or investment recommendation.
Grey-market expectations versus actual listing
The IPO's grey-market premium had weakened substantially before listing and was indicating a largely flat debut around the ₹148 issue price. The actual NSE opening at ₹155 therefore represented a better outcome than those pre-listing indications suggested.
However, grey-market premiums are unofficial indicators and can change quickly. They should not be treated as a reliable measure of a company's fundamental value or future post-listing performance.
The more important test for Varmora Granito will now be whether the company can sustain earnings growth after listing.
Key risks investors should track
The tile manufacturer remains exposed to several industry-specific risks. Demand for tiles is linked to housing construction, real-estate activity, renovation spending and commercial development.
Input costs are another important variable. Energy prices, particularly fuel and power costs, can influence manufacturing margins. Transportation expenses can also affect profitability because tiles are relatively heavy products and require extensive distribution.
Competition from domestic and international manufacturers, changes in consumer preferences and pricing pressure in the ceramic and vitrified tile market could also affect margins.
The company will additionally need to demonstrate that the capital raised through the IPO can translate into stronger financial performance and a healthier balance sheet.
Market Outlook
Varmora Granito's debut at ₹155 on the NSE, around 4.73 per cent above its ₹148 IPO price, indicates that the stock received a better initial market response than the subdued grey-market indications had suggested. However, the listing gain is only the starting point for the newly listed company.
Going forward, investors are likely to track revenue growth, profitability, debt reduction, operating margins, energy costs, domestic housing demand and the company's ability to expand its premium tile portfolio.
With valuation already attracting attention, sustained earnings growth will be an important factor in determining how the stock performs beyond its initial listing-day premium.
