Strong stock-specific triggers lift select BSE 500 counters despite a subdued broader market; RBL Bank, Engineers India and Syrma lead the gainers
Shares of several companies from the BSE 500 index witnessed strong buying interest on Tuesday, with RBL Bank, Engineers India, Syrma SGS Technology, JSW Infrastructure and Welspun Living among the prominent stocks hitting their respective 52-week highs.
The gains came despite a relatively subdued broader market. The BSE Sensex was trading around 74,737 in afternoon deals, down 0.16 per cent, highlighting the stock-specific nature of the rally.
Apart from the major gainers, ACME Solar Holdings, Aegis Logistics, Aegis Vopak Terminals, Apar Industries, Ipca Laboratories, Laurus Labs, Shyam Metalics and Energy and Welspun Corp also touched their respective 52-week highs during the session. Several of these stocks, however, subsequently pared gains and moved into negative territory.
Engineers India surges on Kenya refinery project
Engineers India emerged among the strongest performers, with the state-owned engineering consultancy gaining around 6 per cent to touch a fresh 52-week high of ₹302.05. The stock surpassed its previous high of ₹289.60 recorded on September 1.
The buying interest followed an announcement that Engineers India will execute a major greenfield refinery and petrochemical project in Kenya for the Dangote Group.
Engineers India has previously worked with Dangote as Project Management Consultant and EPCM consultant for the 650,000-barrel-per-day Dangote Refinery and Petrochemical Complex at Lekki Free Zone.
The company is now associated with the next phase of Dangote's expansion, which includes plans for a large greenfield refinery and petrochemical complex in Kenya.
The project strengthens Engineers India's international order pipeline and provides exposure to Africa's expanding refining and energy infrastructure requirements.
RBL Bank touches fresh 52-week high
RBL Bank was another major stock in focus, rising around 5 per cent to touch ₹422.45 during intraday trading. The stock subsequently remained close to its day's high, with trading volumes showing a significant increase.
Around 6.5 million shares changed hands across the NSE and BSE, with average trading activity roughly doubling.
The stock's latest move comes after a period in which investors have closely tracked the bank's progress on asset quality, profitability and funding costs.
During Q1FY27, RBL Bank demonstrated improvement in asset quality and maintained cost discipline, although pressure on net interest margins remained a factor.
Emirates NBD partnership adds to RBL Bank's growth narrative
RBL Bank's strategic partnership with Emirates NBD has also emerged as an important element of its longer-term business strategy.
According to the analysis cited in the source report, the partnership could provide opportunities in liability mobilisation, trade-finance corridors and non-resident deposit flows, particularly involving the Middle East.
The bank's capital position and a subsequent improvement in its credit rating to AAA are also expected to support funding conditions.
Management has indicated that stress in its credit-card portfolio could ease from the third quarter onwards, supported by improvements in early delinquency indicators.
Market analysts cited in the report have therefore revised their assessment of the stock, with a valuation reference based on estimated FY28 book value.
Syrma SGS Technology gains 5%, extends 2026 rally
Syrma SGS Technology continued its strong market performance, with the stock climbing around 5 per cent to hit a fresh 52-week high of ₹1,803.60.
The stock has delivered a sharp rally during 2026. In September alone, it had gained around 25 per cent, while its calendar-year gain stood at approximately 146 per cent, significantly outperforming the broader market over the same period.
The latest rally follows continued expansion in the company's electronics manufacturing and MedTech businesses.
New Jodhpur facility strengthens Syrma's MedTech business
Syrma Johari MedTech recently inaugurated a new medical plastics and precision moulding facility in Jodhpur, Rajasthan.
Spread across more than 120,000 square feet, the facility brings together capabilities including injection moulding, extrusion, blow moulding and tooling.
The facility expands Syrma's manufacturing capabilities in medical plastics and precision components and forms part of the company's strategy to increase its presence in the healthcare and MedTech value chain.
Syrma operates as an electronic systems design and manufacturing services provider, offering capabilities across product design, printed circuit board assembly, box-build manufacturing, prototyping and tester development.
₹6,770 crore order visibility supports Syrma's growth
Syrma's order-book visibility stood at approximately ₹6,770 crore at the end of June, providing a significant pipeline for future revenue.
The automotive segment accounted for around 29 per cent of the order book, while consumer electronics contributed roughly 30 per cent. Industrial applications accounted for approximately 24 per cent, healthcare around 7 per cent, and IT and railways together contributed about 9 per cent.
The diversified order mix gives the company exposure to multiple electronics manufacturing segments rather than dependence on a single end market.
Global EMS opportunity remains significant
The company has also highlighted the long-term growth potential of the global electronic manufacturing services market.
According to Syrma's FY26 annual report, the global EMS market was estimated at around $648 billion in CY2025, compared with approximately $610 billion a year earlier.
The market is projected to reach roughly $690 billion in CY2026 and could grow towards $1.19 trillion by 2034, representing an estimated compound annual growth rate of around 7.1 per cent.
India's expanding electronics manufacturing ecosystem, increasing outsourcing and supply-chain diversification are among the factors supporting the industry's growth outlook.
JSW Infrastructure and Welspun Living also hit highs
JSW Infrastructure and Welspun Living were among the other prominent stocks that touched their respective 52-week highs during Tuesday's trading session.
The move in JSW Infrastructure comes amid continued investor interest in port infrastructure, logistics and India's expanding trade ecosystem.
Welspun Living also witnessed strong buying interest and touched a new 52-week high before the stock's gains moderated.
The performance of these stocks reflects the broader trend of investors selectively favouring companies with exposure to infrastructure, manufacturing and domestic growth themes.
Several BSE 500 stocks touch fresh highs
The broader list of stocks touching 52-week highs included ACME Solar Holdings, Aegis Logistics, Aegis Vopak Terminals, Apar Industries, Ipca Laboratories, Laurus Labs, Shyam Metalics and Energy and Welspun Corp.
However, the subsequent reversal in several of these counters highlights the volatility accompanying stocks trading near record levels.
A 52-week high can indicate strong momentum, but it can also attract profit-taking, particularly when broader market conditions remain uncertain.
Market Outlook
Tuesday's market action highlighted a clear divergence between the broader index movement and individual stock performance. While the Sensex remained marginally lower, several BSE 500 companies touched fresh 52-week highs on company-specific developments, improving business outlooks and sectoral momentum.
Engineers India's Kenya refinery project, RBL Bank's improving asset-quality outlook and strategic Emirates NBD partnership, and Syrma's expanding MedTech operations and sizeable order-book visibility remain key developments behind the interest in these counters.
At the same time, the sharp gains followed by profit-taking in some 52-week-high stocks underline the importance of monitoring volumes, earnings visibility and valuations rather than relying solely on price momentum.
For investors tracking the space, upcoming corporate announcements, order wins, quarterly earnings and sector-specific developments are likely to remain important triggers for these stocks.
