Strong aerospace demand, healthy margins, business diversification and rising precision-engineering opportunities are driving investor interest in Unimech Aerospace, while brokerages see further growth potential

Unimech Aerospace and Manufacturing shares continued their strong run on Monday, rising as much as 7 per cent intraday to hit a fresh high of ₹1,698 on the BSE. The aerospace and defence engineering company has now gained for three consecutive trading sessions, rising around 12 per cent during the period.

The stock has delivered a sharp recovery from its 52-week low of ₹695.05 recorded on March 30, 2026, gaining around 144 per cent from that level. The latest rally reflects growing investor interest in the company's aerospace tooling business, precision-engineering capabilities, expanding order opportunities and improving operational performance.

From aerospace tooling to a diversified precision-engineering platform

Unimech Aerospace operates across high-complexity tooling, precision components, assemblies and engineered systems serving aerospace, defence, nuclear, semiconductor, energy and industrial applications.

Historically, aerospace tooling has been the company's core business. However, the company's revenue mix is gradually becoming more diversified.

According to CareEdge Ratings, the contribution of aero tooling declined from around 90 per cent of revenue in FY26 to 76 per cent in Q1FY27, with the remaining contribution coming from Hobel and the precision-components and assemblies businesses.

This diversification is important because it allows Unimech to address a broader range of applications while reducing its dependence on a single product category.

Healthy margins remain a key strength

Despite challenges including tariff uncertainty, customer inventory rationalisation, softer shipment schedules and fixed-cost under-absorption, Unimech maintained strong profitability.

CareEdge Ratings said the company's EBITDA margin stood at 31 per cent in FY26 and improved to 36.5 per cent in Q1FY27.

The high-margin profile is supported by the company's high-mix, low-volume operating model, significant engineering content, complex products and stringent quality requirements.

The company also maintains a relatively high level of in-house manufacturing capability. Subcontracting costs accounted for only around 3 per cent of revenue in Q1FY27, according to CareEdge.

This provides the company with greater control over manufacturing quality and production processes while retaining a significant portion of the value created within the business.

Aerospace tooling remains the primary growth engine

Aerospace continues to be the most important growth driver for Unimech.

The company supplies tooling and precision engineering solutions to aerospace manufacturers and Tier-1 suppliers, creating opportunities linked to aircraft production, engine programmes and maintenance, repair and overhaul activity.

Choice Institutional Equities expects the company to benefit from a multi-year aerospace tooling cycle supported by rising aircraft production, new-generation engine programmes and recurring MRO demand.

The brokerage highlighted a global aircraft backlog of around 17,000 aircraft and an estimated MRO total addressable market of approximately $193 billion by 2036 as structural demand drivers.

Large customer base and qualification create entry barriers

One of Unimech's competitive advantages is its exposure to global original equipment manufacturers and Tier-1 suppliers.

Aerospace suppliers typically need to meet stringent quality, reliability and qualification requirements before becoming part of a customer's supply chain.

Once a company is qualified, replacing the supplier can involve significant time, testing and regulatory processes. This can create customer stickiness and provide opportunities for repeat orders.

Choice Institutional Equities noted that Unimech's tooling business has expanded to around 6,300 qualified SKUs, compared with 932 in FY22.

The expanding SKU base indicates the company's ability to broaden its product portfolio and deepen relationships with existing customers.

Precision components provide a second growth engine

While tooling remains the largest business, precision components and assemblies are emerging as another potential growth driver.

The precision-components business contributed around 10 per cent of FY26 revenue and serves applications across aerospace, semiconductors, nuclear systems, oil and gas and industrial markets.

The company has also secured nuclear-sector opportunities, including around ₹87 crore of orders, while an En-Masse Coolant Channel Replacement pipeline of more than ₹400 crore provides additional visibility, according to Choice Institutional Equities.

The opportunity is significant because moving from individual components to more complex assemblies can increase the amount of value Unimech captures from each customer relationship.

Hobel acquisition expands capabilities

The acquisition of Hobel has strengthened Unimech's capabilities in areas such as engineered bellows, tubing, welding and complex assemblies.

The additional capabilities allow the company to offer a broader range of products to customers and potentially increase its share of wallet.

CareEdge expects the Hobel acquisition to support PBDIT margins in the 33-35 per cent range going forward, while the growth of the higher-margin aerospace tooling business could help offset the relatively lower margins of the precision-components business.

Saudi facility adds a localisation opportunity

Unimech is also expanding its international manufacturing footprint through its Saudi Arabia operations.

The greenfield facility is expected to provide a localisation-led growth opportunity as aerospace and industrial customers increasingly seek regional supply chains.

Initially, the facility carries the burden of fixed costs associated with a new operation. However, higher utilisation over time could improve operating leverage and support profitability.

CareEdge expects the company's margins to benefit as the initial fixed-cost burden associated with the Saudi facility gets absorbed.

FTWZ strengthens supply-chain flexibility

Unimech has operationalised a Free Trade Warehousing Zone in India as part of its efforts to manage changing global trade policies and improve supply-chain flexibility.

The facility can help customers with inventory management, shorter lead times and greater delivery flexibility while reducing exposure to certain tariff and logistics-related disruptions.

The initiative is particularly relevant at a time when global manufacturers are reassessing supply chains and looking to diversify sourcing across geographies.

Choice Institutional Equities sees further upside potential

Choice Institutional Equities has initiated coverage on Unimech Aerospace with a 'BUY' rating and a target price of ₹1,950.

The brokerage's thesis is based on the company's exposure to the global aerospace tooling cycle, expanding precision-components business, increasing SKU base, customer relationships and the potential contribution from Hobel and the Saudi joint venture.

The brokerage expects the company's transition from individual components towards assemblies and its entry into additional markets to increase its addressable opportunity over time.

The target price and rating are the brokerage's views and should not be interpreted as a guaranteed outcome.

What could support the stock going forward?

Several factors could remain important for Unimech's growth trajectory.

Aerospace production: Higher aircraft production and new engine programmes could increase demand for tooling and precision-engineered products.

MRO demand: The expanding global aircraft fleet could support recurring maintenance-related requirements.

Precision components: Scaling of the company's precision-components and assemblies business could diversify revenue and increase customer wallet share.

Hobel integration: Cross-selling and utilisation of Hobel's capabilities could strengthen the product portfolio.

Saudi expansion: Higher utilisation of the new facility could improve operating leverage.

Defence and nuclear opportunities: Expansion into strategic industries could provide additional long-term growth opportunities.

Risks investors need to monitor

The sharp rise in the stock also means investors need to monitor valuation and execution risks alongside the company's growth prospects.

Aerospace programmes can involve long qualification cycles and changes in customer production schedules. Delays in aircraft programmes or customer inventory adjustments could affect near-term revenue.

The company is also exposed to global trade policies, tariffs and currency movements. Expansion projects such as the Saudi facility carry execution and utilisation risks until they reach optimal capacity.

The precision-components business may also carry lower margins than the core aerospace tooling segment, making the overall margin profile dependent on the pace of business-mix changes.

After a 144 per cent rise from its March low, valuation expectations have also become an important factor for market participants.

Market Outlook

Unimech Aerospace's latest rally reflects the market's increasing focus on its transformation from an aerospace-tooling specialist into a broader precision-engineering platform.

The company's strong margins, expanding SKU base, aerospace exposure, precision-components opportunity, Hobel capabilities and Saudi expansion provide several potential growth avenues. At the same time, the stock's sharp appreciation from its March low means future performance will depend increasingly on earnings delivery and execution.

The aerospace industry's large aircraft backlog and growing MRO requirements could provide a long-term demand backdrop, while precision components, nuclear applications and advanced assemblies could broaden Unimech's addressable market.

For investors tracking the stock, the key indicators will be order inflows, revenue growth, margin sustainability, utilisation of new facilities, contribution from Hobel and precision components, and the pace at which international opportunities translate into earnings.

The ₹1,950 target price assigned by Choice Institutional Equities represents the brokerage's assessment based on its assumptions. Actual market performance will depend on business execution, industry conditions, valuations and broader market sentiment.
