Biocon shares rose nearly 3% in early trade on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, following a large pre-market block deal on the BSE.

Biocon shares climb to ₹403.95 after a large pre-market transaction involving nearly 1% of the company’s equity. The Brazil Pertuzumab partnership, improving quarterly profitability and debt reduction plans provide additional support, while ₹395–₹400 remains a crucial technical support zone.

Biocon Shares Gain Despite Weak Market

Biocon shares rose nearly 3% in early trade on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, following a large pre-market block deal on the BSE. The stock outperformed the broader market, where the Sensex was trading lower amid pressure from rising crude oil prices and geopolitical uncertainty.

According to Bloomberg data, approximately 16.6 million Biocon shares changed hands in a single pre-market transaction. Details of the buyers and sellers were not immediately available.

Media reports suggested that Active Pine offered up to 16.6 million shares, representing around 1% of the Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw-led company. The reported floor price for the transaction was ₹385 per share.

Biocon shares touched a high of ₹403.95 on the NSE. At 10:00 AM, the stock was trading 1.5% higher at ₹398.25, while BSE data showed a volume spurt of more than 82 times.

Brazil Pertuzumab Partnership Strengthens Growth Prospects

The block deal came alongside investor attention on Biocon’s partnership with Bahiafarma and Bionovis for Pertuzumab in Brazil.

The agreement covers the production and commercialisation of Pertuzumab, a therapy used in the treatment of HER2-positive breast cancer, under Brazil’s Productive Development Partnership (PDP) programme.

The consortium received 100% allocation under the country’s 10-year PDP programme for Pertuzumab. Under the arrangement, Biocon will receive milestone payments and a share of revenues generated from the Brazil PDP opportunity over the 10-year period.

The partnership provides Biocon with an opportunity to expand its presence in Brazil’s biopharmaceutical market and strengthen its long-term biosimilars business.

Q1FY27 Profit Rises 51.6%

Biocon’s quarterly performance also remains an important factor behind investor interest. The company reported a 51.6% year-on-year increase in profit after tax to ₹135 crore in Q1FY27.

Revenue from operations rose 10% year-on-year to ₹4,336 crore, while EBITDA increased 10.4% to ₹846 crore. The EBITDA margin remained stable at 19.5%.

The improvement in profitability was supported by lower balance-sheet leverage. Interest expenses declined 23% year-on-year to ₹213 crore following the retirement of structured debt.

The company’s financial performance indicates that lower financing costs are beginning to support profitability, although future growth will continue to depend on the performance of its biosimilars and generics businesses.

Debt Reduction Remains a Key Priority

Biocon’s management has indicated that integration synergies and operating-expense rationalisation across its biopharmaceutical businesses are improving operating leverage and supporting biosimilars margins.

Following the retirement of structured debt, the company expects future free cash flows to be primarily utilised for further debt reduction.

Continued deleveraging could strengthen the balance sheet and improve financial flexibility. However, investors will also monitor whether the company can maintain growth while balancing debt reduction with investments in manufacturing capacity and new product launches.

Malaysia Insulin Facility Expansion in Focus

The company is also progressing with the expansion of its manufacturing capabilities. The EMA approval for the second drug product line at its Malaysia insulin facility is expected to double production capacity.

The additional capacity is expected to support rising global demand from Q2FY27 onwards. The development is important for Biocon’s long-term growth strategy, particularly as the company seeks to expand its presence in global markets.

Biosimilars Growth Expected to Accelerate in H2FY27

Biocon expects biosimilars growth to accelerate meaningfully during the second half of FY27.

The company has identified the US launch of bAflibercept (Yesafili) and bDenosumab (Bosaya/Okelso) as key growth drivers. These launches could support revenue growth and strengthen the company’s position in the global biosimilars market.

The performance of these products will be closely watched by investors, particularly in terms of launch execution, market acceptance and contribution to revenue.

Generics Business and GLP-1 Portfolio in Focus

In the Generics business, Biocon expects growth in its GLP-1 portfolio to be supported by the continued scale-up of generic Liraglutide across the US and other global markets.

The company’s established peptide and fermentation manufacturing capabilities are expected to support the expansion of this portfolio.

The GLP-1 opportunity remains an important part of Biocon’s long-term growth strategy, although the pace of commercialisation and market competition will remain key factors for investors to monitor.

Analyst View: ₹395–₹400 Support Zone Crucial

Harish Jujarey, AVP and Head of Technical Equity Research at Prithvi Finmart, said Biocon is currently in a corrective phase and is trading around ₹400 after declining nearly 10% from its recent swing high of ₹447.

On the technical front, the stock is trading near its 200-EMA, placed around ₹398, which is an immediate support. The previous swing low of July at ₹395 also coincides with this level, making the ₹395–₹400 zone a crucial support area.

According to the analyst, ₹420 is an immediate hurdle, while ₹430 is a key resistance on the weekly chart. If the stock holds the ₹395–₹400 support zone, a bounce towards ₹430, followed by ₹450, could be possible.

However, a sustained break below ₹395 could weaken the technical setup and increase selling pressure.

Market Outlook

Biocon shares are likely to remain sensitive to block-deal activity, the company’s biosimilars growth outlook and developments in the Brazil Pertuzumab partnership.

The ₹395–₹400 zone remains an important support area, while ₹420 and ₹430 are the immediate resistance levels to watch. A sustained move above ₹430 could improve the short-term technical setup and open the possibility of a move towards ₹450.

On the other hand, a decisive break below ₹395 could weaken the stock’s near-term outlook. Investors should also monitor debt-reduction progress, biosimilars launches and upcoming business updates for further direction.
