Shares of Firstsource Solutions Ltd. came under heavy selling pressure after the company's first-quarter (Q1FY27) earnings failed to impress investors on the profitability front.

Revenue Growth Remains Robust and FY27 Guidance Intact, But Profitability Concerns Trigger Sharp Sell-Off as Analysts Offer Mixed Views

Shares of Firstsource Solutions Ltd. came under heavy selling pressure after the company's first-quarter (Q1FY27) earnings failed to impress investors on the profitability front. The stock declined more than 16% over two trading sessions, erasing a significant portion of its recent gains despite reporting healthy revenue growth and maintaining its full-year business guidance.

The sharp correction reflects investors' concerns over softer earnings growth, margin pressures, and elevated valuations following a strong rally over the past few months. While leading brokerages continue to acknowledge the company's healthy order pipeline and improving business momentum, opinions remain divided on whether the recent correction presents a buying opportunity or signals limited upside in the near term.

Stock Extends Losses for Second Consecutive Session

Firstsource Solutions witnessed one of the sharpest declines in the mid-cap IT services space following the release of its quarterly results.

After falling over 13% during Thursday's trading session when the company announced its results, the stock extended losses by another 3% on Friday morning. At around 9:20 AM, the shares were trading near ₹286.60, while the benchmark Nifty 50 Index was down only marginally, highlighting that the decline was driven primarily by company-specific factors.

The steep fall also erased a sizeable portion of the gains the stock had generated in recent months, reflecting disappointment among investors despite a generally healthy operational performance.

Revenue Growth Continues to Impress

Despite the negative market reaction, Firstsource delivered another quarter of strong revenue expansion.

The company reported revenue from operations of ₹2,751.75 crore during the June quarter, representing a 23.9% year-on-year increase compared with ₹2,220.93 crore reported in the same quarter last year.

On a constant currency (CC) basis, revenue grew 2.2% sequentially and approximately 11% year-on-year, broadly meeting analysts' expectations.

Growth was driven by robust demand across the Banking, Financial Services and Insurance (BFSI) segment as well as continued strength in the Telecom and Media verticals. Geographically, Europe emerged as one of the company's strongest-performing markets during the quarter.

The healthy top-line growth indicates that client demand for digital transformation, customer experience management, and business process outsourcing services remains resilient despite macroeconomic uncertainties.

Profit Growth Disappoints Investors

While revenue growth remained encouraging, profitability failed to match investor expectations.

Firstsource reported a net profit of ₹165.92 crore, compared with ₹169.33 crore in the corresponding quarter of the previous year, reflecting a modest decline.

Although the reduction in profit was relatively small, investors were concerned that earnings growth lagged behind revenue growth, suggesting pressure on operating margins and higher investments in business expansion.

The weaker bottom-line performance became the primary reason behind the sharp correction in the share price.

Company Reaffirms FY27 Growth Guidance

Despite the softer earnings performance, Firstsource management maintained a confident outlook for the remainder of the financial year.

The company retained its FY27 constant currency revenue growth guidance of 10–13%, indicating confidence in continued business momentum.

Management stated that the outlook remains unchanged despite the loss of a contract in the healthcare segment following a leadership change at one of its major clients.

The company believes its diversified client portfolio, expanding service offerings, and strong deal pipeline will help offset the impact of isolated contract losses.

Maintaining annual guidance is generally viewed as a positive signal, reflecting management's confidence in future execution.

Strong Deal Wins Provide Growth Visibility

One of the key positives from the June-quarter update was the company's healthy business development activity.

During the quarter, Firstsource:

  • Secured four large transformation deals

  • Added 12 new client logos

  • Won three strategic enterprise customers

The strong deal pipeline provides greater revenue visibility over the coming quarters and demonstrates the company's ability to win new business in a competitive outsourcing market.

Analysts believe continued client additions and higher digital transformation spending by global enterprises could support long-term growth.

Nomura Maintains Bullish View

Global brokerage Nomura retained its positive stance on Firstsource Solutions following the quarterly results.

According to the brokerage, the company's revenue performance remained broadly in line with expectations, with healthy growth across key business verticals and geographies.

Nomura also appreciated the company's decision to retain its FY27 revenue guidance despite losing a healthcare client.

After incorporating the latest quarterly numbers, the brokerage revised its FY27 and FY28 earnings estimates upward by 2–5%.

Nomura maintained its 'Buy' recommendation and increased its target price to ₹310 from ₹300, based on an unchanged valuation multiple of 18 times FY28 estimated earnings per share (EPS).

The brokerage believes Firstsource remains well positioned to benefit from increasing adoption of artificial intelligence, digital customer experience solutions, and outsourced business services.

Emkay Turns More Cautious

Unlike Nomura, domestic brokerage Emkay Global Financial Services adopted a relatively conservative stance.

While Emkay acknowledged that the company's operational performance remained broadly in line with expectations and appreciated the strong deal wins during the quarter, it believes the stock's recent rally has significantly reduced its near-term upside potential.

The brokerage increased its target price by 8% to ₹270 from ₹250, reflecting improved earnings visibility.

However, it simultaneously downgraded the stock to 'Reduce' from 'Add', citing valuation concerns after the stock delivered returns of approximately 18% over one month and more than 21% during the previous three months.

According to Emkay, the current valuation already factors in much of the expected earnings growth.

Digital Transformation Continues to Support Business

Industry experts believe Firstsource remains well positioned to benefit from the ongoing digital transformation initiatives being undertaken by global enterprises.

Demand for:

  • AI-enabled customer support

  • Automation services

  • Digital banking solutions

  • Healthcare outsourcing

  • Cloud-based customer engagement

  • Business process management (BPM)

continues to increase as companies seek greater operational efficiency and cost optimisation.

Firstsource's investments in technology-enabled services are expected to strengthen its competitive position over the long term.

Key Risks Going Forward

Despite maintaining a positive long-term outlook, analysts caution that several challenges remain.

These include:

  • Pressure on operating margins

  • Slower client spending in key markets

  • Delays in large deal implementation

  • Currency fluctuations

  • Rising employee costs

  • Increasing competition within the BPM and IT-enabled services industry

Future quarterly margin performance will remain one of the most closely watched metrics for investors.

Outlook

Firstsource Solutions' June-quarter earnings have produced mixed reactions across the market. While strong revenue growth, healthy client additions, and reaffirmed annual guidance highlight the resilience of the company's business model, weaker profitability and valuation concerns have weighed heavily on investor sentiment.

The contrasting opinions from Nomura and Emkay underscore the current debate surrounding the stock. Optimistic investors continue to focus on the company's robust deal pipeline and digital transformation opportunities, while cautious investors remain concerned about near-term margin pressures and elevated valuations.

As Firstsource continues to execute its growth strategy, future earnings performance, margin recovery, and successful conversion of recently secured contracts will be the key factors determining whether the stock can regain investor confidence after its recent sharp correction.
