New Service History feature enables members to identify forgotten PF accounts, verify employment records and simplify future PF transfers, withdrawals and pension claims.
The Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has introduced a major upgrade to its Unified Member Portal with the launch of a new Service History feature. The enhancement is aimed at helping employees identify old Provident Fund (PF) accounts that may not be linked to their current Universal Account Number (UAN), making it easier to manage retirement savings and access EPF-related services.
The feature is part of EPFO's broader digital transformation initiative, which seeks to centralise member records, improve data accuracy and provide faster online services. It is expected to benefit millions of employees, particularly those who entered the workforce before the UAN system became mandatory.
Why Some Employees Have Multiple PF Accounts
Before the introduction of UAN, every employer generated a separate EPF Member ID for its employees. As workers switched jobs, multiple PF accounts were created under different establishments.
With the implementation of UAN, employees were expected to retain a single permanent account throughout their careers while every new employer linked a fresh Member ID to the same UAN. However, several legacy accounts were never successfully mapped during the migration process, leaving many subscribers with unlinked PF balances.
Common reasons behind missing PF accounts include mismatches in personal details such as name or date of birth, incomplete records submitted by former employers, missing date of exit, unavailable Aadhaar or KYC information during migration and job changes that occurred before UAN became compulsory.
What the New Service History Feature Offers
The newly introduced Service History section provides members with a consolidated view of their employment records under a single dashboard.
Subscribers can now verify:
-
Previous employers linked to their UAN
-
EPF Member IDs from different organisations
-
Date of joining and date of exit
-
Complete EPF service history
-
Employees' Pension Scheme (EPS) service details
This allows members to ensure that all employment records have been correctly captured before applying for PF transfers, withdrawals or pension benefits.
How to Check Your Service History
Members can access the feature by logging into the EPFO Unified Member Portal using their UAN and password.
After logging in, users should navigate to the Member Dashboard and open the Service History section. Here they can review all employment records, verify employer names, Member IDs, joining and exit dates, and ensure their complete work history is accurately reflected.
If all records are available, members can proceed with PF transfers or claims with greater confidence and fewer documentation issues.
What to Do If an Old PF Account Is Missing
If a previous employer or Member ID is not visible, employees should first verify whether the relevant employment period has been recorded correctly.
Those who remember their old Member ID should contact their previous employer to verify EPF records. If the earlier UAN or Member ID is unavailable, the employer can retrieve the information through the EPFO employer portal and assist in linking or transferring the account as per EPFO procedures.
Employees should also ensure that Aadhaar, PAN, bank account details and other KYC information are correctly updated under their current UAN, as mismatched records often delay account linking and claim processing.
Digital Upgrade to Improve Member Experience
The introduction of the Service History feature reflects EPFO's ongoing efforts to modernise its digital infrastructure and improve transparency in member services. By centralising employment records, the organisation aims to reduce processing delays, improve record accuracy and make online PF management more convenient.
For employees who have changed jobs multiple times, especially before the UAN era, reviewing their Service History can help identify missing accounts well before retirement or while submitting PF-related claims, ensuring smoother access to accumulated savings and pension benefits.
Market Outlook
The latest portal enhancement is expected to improve operational efficiency within EPFO by reducing discrepancies in employment records and streamlining PF-related transactions. As digital governance initiatives continue to expand, such technology-driven reforms are likely to enhance user confidence, speed up claim processing and strengthen the overall social security ecosystem for India's workforce.
