Shares of Swiggy Ltd. staged a strong intraday recovery on Friday after witnessing heavy selling in the opening session following the announcement of its June-quarter (Q1 FY27) financial results.

Stock Recovers Nearly 4% From Day's Low as Narrowing Losses, Revenue Growth and MOFSL's ₹350 Target Lift Sentiment

Shares of Swiggy Ltd. staged a strong intraday recovery on Friday after witnessing heavy selling in the opening session following the announcement of its June-quarter (Q1 FY27) financial results. While the company remained loss-making, investors took comfort from a significant reduction in losses, robust revenue growth and improving unit economics in its quick commerce business, Instamart.

The stock opened nearly 2% lower at ₹290 on the National Stock Exchange (NSE) and slipped to an intraday low of ₹280.20, falling more than 5% within minutes of trade. However, bargain buying soon emerged, helping the stock recover to around ₹293 by 9:30 AM—almost 4% above its day's low.

The sharp recovery came amid positive brokerage commentary, with Motilal Oswal Financial Services (MOFSL) reiterating its 'Buy' recommendation and projecting an upside of around 18% from current levels.

Q1 Results Reflect Improving Business Fundamentals

Swiggy's financial performance for the quarter ended June 30, 2026 highlighted continued growth in its core businesses despite ongoing investments in expansion.

The company reported a consolidated net loss of ₹791 crore, compared with a loss of ₹1,197 crore in the corresponding quarter last year, representing a 34% year-on-year improvement.

At the same time, revenue from operations rose sharply to ₹6,812 crore, up from ₹4,961 crore in the year-ago period, reflecting strong demand across both food delivery and quick commerce operations.

Swiggy Q1 FY27 Financial Snapshot

Particulars Q1 FY27 Q1 FY26 YoY Change
Revenue from Operations ₹6,812 crore ₹4,961 crore +37.3%
Net Loss ₹791 crore ₹1,197 crore Loss narrowed by 34%

The numbers suggest that while profitability remains a challenge, Swiggy continues to strengthen its revenue base and improve operating efficiencies.

Instamart Achieves a Major Operational Milestone

One of the biggest positives from the quarterly results came from Instamart, Swiggy's quick commerce platform.

In a letter to shareholders, Co-founder, Managing Director and Group CEO Sriharsha Majety said Instamart achieved contribution breakeven in May 2026, with contribution margins improving to -0.2% of Gross Order Value (GOV) during the June quarter.

This marks a significant improvement from -1.8% in the previous quarter, indicating that the business has substantially improved its unit economics.

The company's adjusted EBITDA loss for Instamart also narrowed to ₹778 crore, reflecting better operational efficiency despite continued investments in expansion.

Contribution breakeven is considered a critical milestone because it indicates that the business is almost covering its direct operating costs before accounting for fixed overheads.

Food Delivery Business Continues to Deliver Stability

Swiggy's core food delivery business remained resilient during the quarter, continuing to provide a stable earnings base for the company.

The segment maintained healthy order volumes, improving operating margins and strong customer engagement despite increasing competition from rival platforms.

Analysts believe the food delivery business remains one of Swiggy's strongest competitive advantages, providing recurring cash flows while the quick commerce business continues to scale.

MOFSL Reiterates 'Buy', Sees 18% Upside

Following the earnings announcement, Motilal Oswal Financial Services (MOFSL) maintained its positive outlook on Swiggy.

The brokerage:

  • Retained its 'Buy' recommendation.

  • Revised its target price to ₹350 per share.

  • Implied an upside potential of around 18% from the previous closing price.

According to the brokerage, Swiggy's revenue exceeded expectations, while Instamart's achievement of contribution breakeven removes one of the major concerns surrounding the company's quick commerce strategy.

MOFSL believes Swiggy's improving operating metrics reinforce confidence in its long-term growth potential.

EBITDA Profitability Still Some Distance Away

Despite the operational improvements, analysts caution that achieving full EBITDA profitability remains the company's next major challenge.

According to MOFSL, Swiggy's quick commerce business will require approximately ₹60 billion in Net Order Value (NOV) before reaching EBITDA breakeven.

Based on current projections, this milestone is expected around FY30, suggesting that investors should continue to expect elevated investments over the next few years.

While contribution margins have improved significantly, sustaining profitability while maintaining high growth remains a key execution challenge.

Competitive Pressure Remains Intense

Swiggy continues to operate in an increasingly competitive quick commerce market.

Its Instamart platform competes with:

  • Blinkit, the market leader.

  • Zepto, which recently postponed its IPO but continues expanding aggressively.

  • Flipkart Minutes.

  • Amazon Now.

As these players continue investing in dark store expansion, faster deliveries and customer acquisition, competition is expected to remain intense across major urban markets.

Maintaining market share while improving profitability will therefore remain one of Swiggy's key priorities.

Investors Focus on Operational Efficiency

Market participants are increasingly shifting their attention away from pure revenue growth towards operational efficiency and profitability.

Key indicators likely to influence investor sentiment include:

  • Expansion in food delivery margins.

  • Improvement in Instamart EBITDA.

  • Reduction in cash burn.

  • Customer retention.

  • Growth in order frequency.

  • Capital allocation discipline.

  • Progress toward sustainable earnings.

The company's ability to improve these metrics could determine the pace of any future valuation re-rating.

Why Did the Stock Recover?

Although the headline loss initially triggered selling, investors appeared encouraged by several positive developments:

  • Significant narrowing of net losses.

  • Strong double-digit revenue growth.

  • Instamart reaching contribution breakeven.

  • Positive management commentary.

  • Continued strength in the food delivery business.

  • Bullish brokerage outlook.

These factors helped reverse early weakness and supported buying interest at lower levels.

Market Outlook

Swiggy's June-quarter performance reflects a company gradually moving toward stronger operating fundamentals while continuing to invest in future growth. The sharp improvement in revenue, narrowing losses and Instamart's contribution breakeven suggest that the business is making meaningful progress despite an intensely competitive environment.

However, the journey toward full profitability is still expected to take time. Investors will closely monitor execution in the quick commerce business, margin expansion in food delivery and the company's ability to balance growth with capital efficiency. As India's quick commerce market continues to evolve, sustained improvements in operating metrics will be critical in determining whether Swiggy can unlock long-term shareholder value.
