Spain has strengthened public health advisories, increased the availability of climate shelters and restricted outdoor work during the hottest hours of the day.
Germany has imposed temporary speed restrictions on railway services after heat affected rail infrastructure, while Hungary has opened thousands of public cooling centres nationwide. The United Kingdom has issued consecutive extreme heat warnings, prompting school closures and health alerts, while the Netherlands declared its first-ever Red Alert for extreme heat across multiple provinces.
Several other European countries have advised residents to avoid outdoor activities during peak afternoon temperatures, remain hydrated and regularly check on elderly neighbours and vulnerable family members.

The current heatwave has reinforced the urgency of investing in climate adaptation across Europe. Urban planners and environmental experts believe cities must expand green spaces, improve building designs, modernize public infrastructure and strengthen heat-health warning systems to reduce future risks.
